I went and bought a gigabyte windforce 290x today because I found a really great deal on it and I can't seem to get it working. I pulled out my old video card and plugged up the power connectors and everything for the new card and I get no display and the fans don't even spin on the card. I'm assuming it's a dead card, but is there anything else that I can try before I return it to the store? I'm running the latest bios on my p67 fatality professional with a 2600k.
 
What card did you upgrade from?
How big is your PSU?
Did you make sure that the connectors are connected to the PSU and are the right type,6/8 pin?
Did you uninstall your old drivers before removing the other card?

I'm coming from a 7970 so I didn't think drivers would be an issue, especially since I'm not even getting a bios splash screen or the fans are spinning. I've seated the gpu in all the pcie slots on my motherboard and they all do the exact same thing. I'm running an 850 watt bronze psu and both the six and eight pin connectors are connected.
 
What motherboard are you hooking it into? Also have you tried flipping the bios switch I think one of them is legacy and one is uefi by default... at least on the ref cards. For you mobo make sure to update the bios. Also can you hook both cards up an see if you can see the other card in windows?
 
Fans should still start regardless.

There is a power issue somewhere.
 
I hooked up both cards at the same time, and only my 7970 showed up. I'm ruining the latest bios on my motherboard as well
 
That's what I was thinking too, but my PSU has run crossfire 1.2v 7970s so it should be able to handle a single 290x just fine.
 
As mentioned in a post above do the fans spin up? That would be the first place to start.
 
Have you tried a different PCI E slot? If so then yeah it seams to be roasted. Check for any damage on the board
