290x DisplayPort doesn't work

My new HIS 290x reference video card does not output video via the DisplayPort, but it does output audio over the built in speakers on my Asus VG248. Here is a cut and paste from my support ticket I thought I would run past you all:

DisplayPort does not output video, but does output audio. HDMI and DVI both work properly. Installed a second monitor via HDMI (Asus VS248-also works via DVI as noted before): The following errors are present upon boot regarding the other DisplayPort attached monitor: "DisplayPort Link Failure" ; "DisplayPort Lower Setting Applied"
Installed an older DisplayPort capable video card and confirmed that the monitor and cable are working properly.
Reverted to 3 previous motherboard bios versions with no effect.
Reverted to bundled catalyst video drivers with no effect.

Any ideas other than defective card?

I also have an HIS 290x, and my displayport works okay. I have a three-monitor setup with each monitor running at 2560x1440 resolution. Note because of the high res I did have to use a Startech adapter on the displayport link.

Did that cable work before? Some of those 99c DP cables are not very reliable.

Defective card. I have a VG248 over DP and two other monitors over DVI, with no issue.

I had the same issue with my XFX 290x, no display problem but fan was spinning, sounds like you got the same issue. RMA it.

Not sure how you'd trouble-shoot it, but perhaps it's running at an out-of-range resolution/freq? I get errors from time to time from my 144hz that seem pretty random.

Can you get it connected, with another monitor so you can bring up screen resolution and see what's up?

I guess maybe I should clarify. The second monitor is set up as an expanded/mirrored multiple display, this is how I received the error messages. They both work fine via DVI/HDMI, single or dual, just not when one is connected via DisplayPort, Other than the fact that its a $550 dollar card that isn't functioning properly this wouldn't be a problem, but I need 120-144hz, so DisplayPort is a necessity.
