What happened to this card? I saw reports online about it but i know it never got released...

any insight on it?

The card consumed a lot more power and gave out less performance than a 8800GTX. The HD encoding on the hardware was gimped. It had broken AA support. It is survived by the HD 3870 which is basically the same thing with improvements and better performance for some games. Therefore, it was not worth mentioning the 2900 series today. Look forward to the HD 4870!

The 2900XTX specifically, if memory serves, was the same as an XT except it had 1GB of GDDR4 RAM. It was more expensive but wasn't any better than the XT so there wasn't any point in making them.

there was an OEM 2900XT which showed up in a couple of cases as the 2900XTX, but it was an R600. Nuff said.

Hd4k series looks to haul ass, and I suspect Brent, our own Video card review editor has one now or will be seeing one very shortly, and will be under NDA :S. Expect to see a Hard OCP review of the HD4870, perhaps only with GDDR3 (instead of the native GDDR5), in the next few weeks, and expect it to overthrow the 9800GTX, with ease, perhaps even rattling the 9800GX2s chains?

Also, Nvidia has a new product, the GT200, due out for the end of the summer. Forget the HD2k series, it was a failure as a product.

hmm... sounds like a marketing screw-up to me.

thanks. i was just curious. don't worry i wasn't on my way out to buy one, i'm totally waiting for my stimulus check from the IRS, which should be this month, combined with i have a buyer for my 3870, i'll be rolling in it, and then i should be able to buy a new card :D

2900XTX was reviewed and showed an awesome 0 to 1% performance gain over the 2900XT and thus was sent back to the netherworld.

what made it able to have the XTX on it? what was so much better?

did it scale well in crossfire?

They couldn't get GDDR4 to work properly with the core, so not very many were produced
