2900XT no 2D mode

I just bought a Sapphire 2900XT and I'm very pleased with the performance of the card.

The only thing I don't like though is the fan noise...the fan is constantly spinning like if it was in 3D mode even at idle. :(

Is it not supposed to run in 2D mode whenever I'm in desktop application and increase the fan speed in 3D applications ?

I have installed the 7.10 Catalyst driver and pluged the card with two 6-pins connectors.

Hmm, mine runs quiet in 2d. Have you tried using ATI tool to check the fan speeds?

Yes it runs at 31% and it's too noisy !

I can lower it to 25% wich is silent but the fan won't increase its speed in 3D mode, even if I disabled ATI tool.
 
Play with the temp/fan% table in ATi Tool. I've got mine running at 25% when under 60.

Changing the table enables the fan to spin up in games.


25% is still too loud tough... If I go any lower temps are way up.


Edit: Right now my "Dynamic temp table" is as follows

above 0 --- 25%
above 60 --- 31%
above 70 --- 38%
above 90 --- 44%
above 95 --- 69%
above 100 --- 81%
above 105 --- 100%
above 105 --- 100%

In theory card never goes over 38% fan speed because of the bigger jump (70-90) in the table

Yeah that's what I did but the card stays with the 2D clock in games when ATT is open. :confused:
 
Oh, I forgot about that.. I also set it up so it doesn't play with the clocks..

In the "HD 2000 Overclocking" menu,

"If card has 2D/3D clocks, switch to 3D clocks when starting ATITool" is Off

ATI automatic clock switching is "Not affected"


This should make CCC switch clocks when entering Games/3D apps.
