2900Pro worth $169?

So I just sold my 8800GTS 320 for ~$235 and now looking for a new card to buy. Keep in mind, I never had an issue with my 8800GTS not being powerful enough, just wanted to sell before the price downward spiraled and I always regretted buying the card with under 512MB Ram.

So I am really considering buying the 2900Pro 512MB 512Bit for $169 as opposed to a 3870 for ~$240 or an 8800GT for ~$260. Are the two latter cards really worth the extra price over the 2900Pro? Right now I am on a 17" monitor but am looking to get a 22" at some point in the future.

I just don't want to end up buying the 2900Pro and realizing it was a really bad purchase compared to a 3870 or 8800GT, not just performance wise, but power and heat wise as well (as well as ATI driver support as opposed to Nvidia).

I ordered the 8800GT last night but quickly canceled it after realizing that I really don't need that much out of my card (at the moment at least). The most graphically intense game I play right now is CoD4 and my 8800GTS doesn't even stutter at all with it, and I'm assuming the 2900Pro is better than my 8800GTS and not to far off the 3870/8800GT.

Was out of the video card loop since the summer so not really sure on what's hot now Thanks.
 
Well, on the reviews I was seeing, the 2900XT is actually around 10% better than the 3850, and the 2900Pro seems to flash into a 2900XT without much of an issue. And for $30 cheaper. The ASUS/Gigabyte 3950's do look tempting with the Aftermarker Cooler and the added games... Decisions decisions...
 
The HD3850 and 3870 would still be the better choices seeing that they consume less power, run cooler, don't cost that much more, and have a lot more overclocking headroom that diminishes any performance lead the 2900 Pro may have had. Personally, I can only ever see the 2900 Pro being a good choice if it was closer to $100 and someone had an extremely tight budget. Other than that, the newer cards are superior choices. :)
 
I was considering the X2900GT before getting the 3850. What convinced me to spend the extra $40, was the fact that the X2900GT only has 240 stream processors compared to the 320 on the 3850. From personal experience, the 3850 is about as fast as the old 8800GTS overall. My recomendation is the 3850 over the X2900Pro.
 
2900 GT is absolutly pointless for the same price you can find 2900pro 256bit edition with more RAM and full 320 shaders.
 
A 2900 pro whoops ass on the 3850, especially when overclocked (the core can typically pull off a 200+mhz oc, trouncing stock 2900xt speeds). For the price, it's definately valuable. Yes, it eats power, that's no lie, but for the performance and the price I would get it over a 3850, but that's just me, and if you don't have plans to strap up a 2nd in crossfire. (due to the power requirements) I have a 2nd one coming for a new build I'm doing as well in a sff.
