Has anyone done performance comparisons in modern games showing the differences with the new gpus and and cpus. (Still using an am3+ board).

what resolution? I think it would be silly to go 290x with that cpu at 1080. there is already a difference in some games even when using slower cards. you would likely never see the difference between a 290 and 290x with an 8350.

1440p res

looking for the differences between the 290 or 290x and using an i7-3xxx or later vs an AMD 8350 cpu.

I already have the am3+ board with an aging amd 955 cpu in there. If most of the modern games are going to be designed from the ground up to better utilize 8 cores, it might not matter if the ipc are not as high with the amd.

But it would be nice to see confirmation of this.

at 1440, I would not worry about it. there will be a few cases that you might have a playable difference if trying to stay above 60 fps with vsync though. if you have the money then go for the 4770k and just sell your old stuff.

FX8350 if you already have the board. It just makes sense. The money you save on the board and the cheaper chip can be put towards upgrading the 290 to the 290X.

An no CPU is going to give that performance bump for that price.
