Yep to this. Also, if you are doing 4k, it will help as well by a lot even if you have to turn down a few settings in the very latest games. (290x to R9 Fury Nitro gets 15 to 20 more fps at 4k with the same settings.)
 
I haven't made the move to 1440p or higher yet (I do have some 1440p monitors at home). I still prefer 1080p on a 144hz refresh monitor.

Well I'm at 1440p on my 390x and get great performance.
Upgrading to a FuryX though would be [H]ard. So I say do it. haha

If you are going to stay at 1080p at 144hz for a while and you can already do so, I would not bother with upgrading. However, if your card is struggling to give you even that, then I would definitely upgrade.
