I dont use x2 or SLI GPU's, single GPU's only.

I have a Qudro1700(aka 8600GT), going to a GTS 250 1GB( it was shorter, than a 9800) in a few days.
Thats what my budget was(had to replaee my mobo and a few other things)

For a non gamer using a 24" 1920x1200 and a 22" 1680x1050, would anything higher than a GTX 285 be overkill( throwing my money away)?

My apps:

Photoshop
After Effects
Premirer
Maya
Fusion or Nuke

And anyone that suggest a Quadro, you better have 2K plus for a good one because the the ones that are less than 2K arent worth what I paid for my old Quadro.

Can anyone suggest a PC game or two thats non-shooter? I have Tomb Raider, and play Fable2 on my 360 but looking for something to show off my GPU.

thanks guys,
shane c.

For single GPU there is no anything higher than a 285.
If you're not going to game its going to be a waste along with the money you spend on it.

Maybe it's just SLi causing the problem, but with my 285, After Effects and Photoshop won't use more than 200MB of the VRAM.

Though, with that + i7 920 @ 3.4 and 6GB RAM, I was editing semi-compressed 720p video in real time, full render preview quality. God I love this PC.
