Guys.. I am really against doing a 3 monitor set up, so I'm thinking whether I should be looking into a nice 27 or a 30 inch panels instead (mainly for gaming) ? I now have 24 inch DELL and I love it, but would like something bigger. Is 30' too much? won't I be moving my head around ? I heard that rumor that 30' is way too big for an LED Monitor. Is that true?

Personally I think 30" is kind of huge for a desktop, but plenty of people would disagree. 27" 2560x1440 is the sweet spot right now imho. Especially when you consider how much more you pay for the extra 160 lines on the 30".

All 30" monitors are wide gamut=inaccurate and over saturated colors in non-color managed programs (games).

With 30" you either choose from poor black levels+grainy matte coatings or the

Dell 3014 which has good black levels and a light matte coating but obvious ghosting issues and the sRGB mode has high input lag and a green tint which can't be fixed since the color settings are locked.

Stick with 27", right now the ViewSonic VP2770 is the best for gaming

I would say 30inch but make sure you get 2560x1600 resolution one. For the extra resolution you get, I think it is candy on the eye :). Currently, I have Dell 3007 (the newer version just came out 3014, with great reviews, just a bit expensive), I love 2560x1600 reso games, espacially RTS, like starcraft2, looks so good.

I also play battlefield and the 30inch, you get used to it after a bit. At first it seems so big but with a few weeks you won't even notice it is that big.

On the other hand, if you are going for the standard 1080p, go for a 27inch, 30inch will make all the pixel like magnified pixel so no no. Even a 27inch 1080p isn't that nice imo. Good luck :)

30 inch for sure. Nothing beats Skyrim @ 2560x1600. I haven't noticed the colour issues that NCX mentioned, but it depends how sensitive you are to that I guess. I like the fact that it's 3" bigger than the 27" but the same resolution which makes things a bit easier to read. I have my DPI settings set to 125% or sometimes 150% which makes for easy reading when about 1.5 feet away without me having to squint.

I used my 5770 to run Skyrim @ 2560x1600 but had to cut down the details. I upgraded to a GTX 660 and now all details are just about full so I would recommend that as your lowest level video card.

I would wait for the issues on the 3014 to be fixed and then order that, you'll get about 50% power savings. I waited for a Dell special and then used the extra money to get the 5 year warranty just in case.

Hope this helps.

pixel size on the 27 inch 1440p is really really small. Pixel size on the 30 inch 1600p is already smaller than that of 24 inch 1200p and 23 inch 1080p. when you are sitting 1-2 feet away from the screen, its hard to percieve any higher sharpness from the 27 inch monitor. And for gaming, larger screen real estate = more immersive gameplay. Many games today supports changing FOV so you can set to a high FOV in order to make use of most of your peripheral vision.

I am in the same conundrum, I have 2 23" and am debating getting a 27" or 30" how long do you think we would have to wait for the 30" dell to have a revision? If we get the monitor now, can't we just RMA it when the rev 2 comes?

Go read about the Qnix QX2710.
nearly all of them overclock to 96Hz, and some go to 120hz.

You can get it glossy or matte.
It has very low input lag.
$320 shipped on ebay.

I read though, that a lot of them have power issues where they die, hate to get it and then the monitor dies right away.

SquareTrade warranty. +$50

It still can't be beat for the price even adding the cost of warranty.

Ah, basically getting the 27" + squaretrade for $320 is better than the new dell u3014 for $1,200 (5 year warranty). Is the 27" that much better do you think?

The Dell can't do 96 Hz and no option on the AG coating and it's what, $800 more expensive?

What exactly do you get? 3" bigger, an hdmi port, some usb ports and the Dell brand name.

At that price, when the first squaretrade warranty runs out, you can buy the next 27" Korean LCD and still have ~$400 "leftover".

I don't understand why anybody would buy the Dell.

Thats a really good point, I was leaning towards the dell, mainly due to the resolution and it being 30" but for the price I am paying I could get 3 of the 27" Do they come with any standard warranty? I know NCX was talking about a viewsonic as well.

The Viewsonic VP2770 has high input lag.

The Korean LCDs do not come with any warranty. The Qnix also has a really crappy stand and you have to open the casing and modify it to get access to the VESA mounts.
I have both a Crossover 27" Korean LCD and the Qnix. I like the picture quality on the Qnix better (colors) and got a matte finish because I was tired of the glare on the glossy Crossover. I noticed a huge difference going from 60hz to 96hz.

A lot of forum members are starting to stand behind the LightBoost technology and some say it's worth the tradeoff downgrade in resolution. I haven't used the LightBoost, but after having used a 1440p LCD for a year, I do NOT want to downgrade back to 1080p.

Ok, so the Dell can be purchased for $990+tax
That's STILL $623 more expensive than a 27" Korean.

Even if they were the same price, I would buy the Qnix purely because of the refresh rate overclock alone.
