Currently I have Asus MX239H display and it has worked quite well BUT there are few annoying issues:
  • PWM flickering (new should be flicker free).
  • Cross-hatching (example: vertical lines on solid cyan).
  • Overdrive can go nuts after a while and cause noticeable visual artifacts. That can be fixed by switching between the trace free modes but it can be a bit annoying. Luckily it's rather rare issue though.
So for those reasons I've been wondering about if I should get a new screen. I'd be willing to spend between 200 € - 300 €, preferably closer to 200 €. 1920x1080 screen would be fine for now since that's the sweet spot for GTX 970 (I plan to upgrade to high refresh rate 4K display in the future when GPUs can actually handle that resolution).

75 Hz support would be really, really good thing to have and 8-bit panel would be great too (though I guess there are no 8-bit 1080p IPS/PLS panels out there). Image quality & colour reproduction and response time should be as good or better than on my Asus MX239H. Is there anything that would fit the bill?

I've been looking at Samsung S27D390H 27" (LS27D390HS/EN) since the price is good and some sites seem to think that it's flicker free (though I'd like solid proof...). No idea if it can do 75 Hz though.

Have you tried switching the cable and hooking the display up with different port combinations?

I would also try switching Overdrive to OFF. Some monitors have issues with it.

There's so much variance in screens now Tup3x. Between GSYNC and Freesync and so forth.

At your budget I would get the biggest 1080p 144hz GSYNC monitor I could afford. I can't stand screen tearing and stuttering. It gives me a headache and really breaks the immersion. GSYNC has made gaming enjoyable for me again.

What's nice about GSYNC and FreeSync is that you're going to see a difference in every game. Not every game has 2k and 4k textures. And not every game can play or be pushed over 60 FPS - sometimes even 30 FPS.

If screen tearing and stuttering doesn't bother you, I'd get a 27" 1440p IPS monitor that you can overclock. Perhaps one of the the Monoprice like units.

You're going to have more issues with that 970 at 1440p. Sometimes there just isn't enough VRAM. You're also going to have issues pushing some games at 1080p to 144 FPS. That being said, enough VRAM is going to be more of an issue. And the exact point of GSYNC and Freesync is to eliminate problems with framerate variance.

Come to think of it. I would absolutely go with a GSYNC monitor. If you go 1440p you're creating a problem. If you go GSYNC you're solving one.

Unfortunately 144 Hz 27" screens are out of my budget and the cheapest are mostly TN panels which are out of the questions (and still way too pricey, 1440p would be 2x-3x over budget). While I do not need über accurate colours (I'm a web developer) TN panels is still no go. I'm going to skip 1440p and go straight to 4K in the future. 75Hz is decent improvement over 60Hz and something that is rather achievable with my current hardware.

Samsung S27E390HS (LS27E390HS/EN) would be another option. I think it's the newer version of Samsung S27D390H (LS27D390HS/EN) and it's flicker free for certain but I can't find info whether or not it can do 75 Hz without frame skipping or other issues. S27D390H's smaller version does do 75Hz just fine though...

Samsung S27D390H seems to be pretty good deal and it does look like it can do 75 Hz just fine too.

Well... I ended up ordering Samsung S24E390HL for 149€. 27" would definitely be too large for 1080p. I definitely want flicker free backlight now and I don't want to wait any longer. The AG coating should be rather pleasant too.

It doesn't look like high refresh rate 27" 1440p HDR monitors are coming anytime soon (and it will take quite some time before those are sanely priced).
