27" IPS Monitor: Acer XB271HU vs AOC AG271QG vs ViewSonic XG2703-GS

I'm looking to upgrade from my present 60Hz 27" IPS monitor to a G-Sync monitor. Before someone asks, yes, I have a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 4GB Windforce card in my computer. And, yes, I am aware of the price premium of a G-Sync monitor.

I'm looking at three different monitors: a Acer Predator XB271HU bmiprz, AOC Agon AG271QG, and a ViewSonic XG2703-GS. In looking at the specs....
  • All three have IPS panels
  • All three have 2560 x 1440 Quad HD
  • The AOC is limited to 144Hz. The ViewSonic and Acer appear to be overclockable to 165Hz.
  • The ViewSonic appears to be the cheapest at $700 at NewEgg. The AOC is $750. The Acer is $800 at NewEgg.

What is the difference between the three monitors?

Hi ZLoth,

I have been looking at these monitors as well (excluding the AOC). Currently have a 24" 16:10 SPVA Dell panel from 2005. Most everything I read says they are very similar similar and you just got to hope you get one with no issues. I have had good luck with Viewsonics at work (non gaming) and my brother has the Acer you mentioned and loves it. I think the colors are on par with my Dell. I am curious to read other comments.

all of those panels are super close. same goes with the asus model with similar specs. I would say its going to come down to the little things like aesthetics or something
 
It's going to be AU Optronics panel roulette no matter what (why I'm still on the fence).

Pick your poison. Pick the retailer you like the most that has the best return and exchange policy because you stand excellent odds of doing at least one swap.
 
All that I'm hoping to do is pick up a good monitor at a sale price. If not Black Friday, then maybe later.

You'll be able to do that.

I'm simply saying: Be prepared to do an exchange at least once.
 
As another thought, CES is coming up soon and it will be interesting to see what is coming down the pipe for next year (HDR maybe?). I picked up a Asus PG248Q as a stop-gap. This way I didn't feel bad spending 700-800 right now and I still get "okay" colors and of course g-sync. Some some other food for thought.
 
I have the Acer and personally I think it's great. The coating is unobtrusive, display quality is pretty solid (very little backlight bleed), uniformity is good.

As far as 144hz vs 165hz goes, I don't think it matters. I use ULMB @ 120hz 100% of the time, and to my eyes 120hz ULMB looks much smoother than 165hz without ULMB anyway.
 
Just as a followup... I got the Viewsonic yesterday and have set it up. The higher framerates and rock-steady images are so worth it. Had to tweak the desktop settings to get 144Hz, but that's to be expected.

Only problem is that the HDMI input is limited to 60Hz verses the 144/165 with Displayport. It's not that big of a deal since I'm hooking my work laptop to the HDMI port verses my main rig being on Displayport. I think that's a known limitation with the HDMI standard.
