Hey all

I'm looking for a good hdtv 27 inch panel around the 400-500 range- anyone have recommendations? Its primary use for now would be a pc monitor but I plan on using it for tv/360/ps3 in the future.

Thanks

This might be a little out of your budget but it is very much worth the extra expense.
I picked mine up at walmart (I wasn't looking for hdtv's there) for about $900 bucks and about $30 bucks for the wall mount. I use mine for HD-DVD through my Xbox360 and the picture is stunning. Also the included HD-Tuner in nice and is stronger than the one in my Computer running ATI's HDTVwonder. Gears of War looks amazing on this display.
The best thing about it is its 3000:1 contrast ratio, I watched batman begins on HD-DVD this weekend and I have never seen a better picture. No ghosting issue and samsung backs up its products with a 1 year warrenty. There is a nice remote as well and it has an array of hook ups. 2 HDMI's and PC 15 pin VGA connections. Using the HD-DVD player for the 360 you can't get a better source.

Considering you're looking primerily for a computer monitor I would suggest a 24" Dell or BenQ or maybe even a 25.5" Mitsubishi or NEC if you are prepared to wait, there is also a 27" Dell rumored to be on the horizon also but... Given your budget you are forced to look at low end HD-TVs which, unfortunately, are not usually very good as computer monitors :(

Dell are said to have a 27" LCD monitor coming.. would suit your requirements provided that they decide to deck it out with the range of inputs on the 2405, 2407 etc.

That said, earlier this year we all expected to see the panel in October... still no firm word.. anyone else got any news on it ?

Considering that I'm on a college student budget, I can't go for that 900 samsung. I've been looking at the dell 2007 and 2407 but the lack of any tv component support pushed me away. Being a college student, tv might become as big a priority as using as pc monitor.

I've been looking at some low end 32inch panels but i was wondering if there were 27 inches with better PQ at the same price range

Thanks for the input

syntax olevia 27" LCDTV - Have it and love it. You can probably get one for $500-600. Just Froogle it and check it out. Max resoultion is only 1280X1024 - that is my only beef and why I will be upgrading soon.

I just picked up an Oelivia 27" for $380 after tax and 170 rebate. Its not bad for the price I do say. I'm using it as a monitor/wii display and couldnt be happier for the price.

The deal is at Office depot. I'm not sure how long its running for but bring in the 10% off circuit city TV coupon and they will price match it for another $60 off when ringing up. So the total was $550 after sales tax and 380 less the rebate.

This is true but 'humanfugitive' was talking about using it as a TV so I'm gonna guess he didn't actually mean 'Component' as that would help you use it as a TV (unless he has a really expensive TV tuner). He probably meant 'Composite' which would very easily plug into a video or DVD recorder and thus give him a TV tuner. Both the Dell 2007 and 2407 have 'Composite' and 'S-Video'.
