Wellllllllllllllllllllllllll, after 5 hours of playing around, I have came to the conclusion that my Nvidia 260 will not multiple gpu on the following 3 motherboards. MSI p6n diamond, p6n platinum and evga 680i sli (58). Now this is just my experience and I have bee whining here for months trying to get anything to fold on the EVGA in conjunction with the 260 with zero luck. Currently this is a 216 260 but I am sure the results of this test would be the same. Only reason I am posting is just an FYI for anyone with these boards that wish to add a card with a 260 or buy one with the intentions of adding say an 8800 later. Of course YMMV but I have only seen one or two other people have success in this area. One was on an older board, like a 590 something as I recall (pulling out the I am old and cant remember card) and they were using a 280. edit: Both of the folks that had success were using AMD boards. Anyway I hope this saves someone some grief. Have a nice day.
Yes, it hurt a great deal to lose all those points while swapping 9 cards back and forth, lol.
 
I'm not a multi-GPU guy, but are you sure the Windows settings+dual display/dummy plug requirements are not misleading you? Xilikon has a great guide for those "other than simple" setups like you're testing.


 
I have 2 other boxes running multiple and tried the 260 on both of the boards, so yeah I am sure. lol
 
with evga you have better luck with just contacting them and asking them why multi 260's wont work on their board.. they have a dang good customer service and they will tell you exactly why it wont work or a way to fix it.. MSI im not totally sure on.. but id contact EVGA if i was you..
 
OK I feel better.

I think it is the 680 and 750 chipsets, because I've tried on a few mobos as well and no go.

I'm not stupid after all :D

I did toss EVGA a line today so I am waiting on a preliminary answer. But, yes I will persue this. I currently have my 260 on a 478 single pci mb lol. Hope to fix that. I have been digging around some and still the same thing pops up. That thing is that ALL of the instances I have seen so far of the mixing working has been on AMD boards. This is for 280 and 260 / anything else. To be redundant I will mention I have never succeded in even gettin the second gpu to fold with the 260 idle. I suppose I could have tried swapping the cards,but that would not be very practicle.
 
subliminal (bump) By all means don't be afraid to contact EVGA or any other card maker to help and get a handle on this. I am not a bit selfish nor would I refuse help, snicker. Also, if you have and intel cpu based board that does allow a 260/280 to use multiple gpu other than another 260/280, please share with us. I would also like to say that just because I have only been a forum member a short time, this not reflect the time I have been folding (cough). Tnx all. (subliminal send me all your 9800gx2's)
 
I have had an Asus Formula Maximus (bios 1207) take a BFG 8800 GTS 512mb OC (G92) in slot 1 and a BFG GTX 260 OC in slot 2 and fold just fine. There was of course a small ppd drop because of the mixed card setup, but still had good results. Since then I have moved the G92 into a different system and added a second BFG GTX 260 OC to the board mentioned.

 
Perhaps I will try the 260 in a different slot than one, but need to recoup some of the lost ppd first.
 
I just did a step up 3 weeks ago to the 216 so that should not be a factor.
 
EVGA replied to my email and gave me the ol use driver cleaner and check the forums message, lol.
 
I have a silly question. Wish my son was not out of town, lol. A gent on the EVGA forum says he has a 260 running with an 9800GX2. I don't have one of those cards but have tried about every other Nvidia card 8600 and above with (G920). He says he installed the drivers by putting one card one at a time in the primary, then put both cards in and it works. My experience is that windows installs drivers automatically when you put in a new card and at least on Vista 64 I can not interrupt the install. Therefore I guess I for one am aT a lose on how do replicate his procedure. Ideas ?

Yeh I call shens on this. I battled with mine for hours, but every time I had to redo the drivers each time.
 
Its amost the holiday season, perhaps the elven folder bunny will bring me a new 260, mwhahahahaha.
 
I have a new mobo here with a P45 chipset in it. I'll install soon and post what happens.

I bet the 260's work just fine in it. (unlike my brand new mobo with a 750i :mad:)

 
It's on todays list of things to do today...... I just don't want to install windows.... again, for the 3rd time in a month on this box. :(

OK:

My two 260's are now folding, full bore on a BioStar mobo with a P45 chipset.

I can't run Sli with the cards (mobo does not support) but I am getting full folding power.

I have tried both these cards on two different mobos, one by MSI and one from EVGA (look to see the EVGA 750i in the FS section tonight)

I will come out and say that the 750i chipset does not work if you want to fold with a pair of GTX260s

They work perfectly well on a Intel Based P45 based mobo.

The eVGA (and every other 680i based boards) are slot sensitive. The top, primary slot must be populated first, the very bottom slot second and the center slot third.

Add to that the 680i is a power hungery mofo so a proper PSU is in order;)

 
What a surprise nvidia chipset based boards not working like they are supposed to :rolleyes:

I think the nforce4 is the last nvidia chipset I'd call remotely stable, if you can go for a intel based mobo.
