25ms worth it?

Lower response times are better: 16 MS is faster than 25, and 12 is faster than 16. MS means milliseconds.
 
If you are a "huge gamer", then I would invest in the lowest response rate you can afford. On any fast moving games (driving, fps), ghosting can occur on monitors with slow response rates.

As a general rule 25ms is the "cutoff" for response rates on gaming LCDs. Anything slower and ghosting may be a problem.
 
The type of panel is much more important than those meaningless 25ms, 16ms and 12ms numbers. 16ms and 12ms TN panels only reach that speed at black-to-white transitions while for other transitions they behave much like 25ms panels. It's not unusual to see a 25ms panel outperforming a 16ms one.
 
Better yet, if you really want an LCD go with what your eyes tell you. Some people can't see ghosting on 25ms panels but they can on 16ms and vice versa. If you can't see ghosting then that is all what matters.

16ms lcds arent that bad and can be had definately under $300. (17")

Got My Dell e173p (I think). 17" lcd, 16ms $250.

Not as good as my Samsung 172x (12ms) though.
