2560x1600 possible?

Dell 30", 3930k CPU with 6870 video card, and SSD.

I want to try to game at 2560x1600 in BF3 and maintain 60FPS, I don't mind keeping the settings lower but I'd rather play at this resolution than on my smaller screen!

I know the 6870 doesn't cut it and framerate is really looooow.

Is there anything in the $300 range that would give me 60fps even on lower settings at 2560x1600 or am I dreaming here?
 
I don't know about 60 fps on lower settings, but I play BF3 on a 30" Cinema Display with a Sapphire 7950 on max settings smooth frame rate too.
 
I have a 30" 2560x1600 monitor with a 7950, no problems with gaming so far...

Is there a 7950 known to "power down" when not in use more than others?

I won't game often, and would want to conserve power most of the time, but when I do game I want it to ROCK :D

What this guy said. Maybe not max settings in every game @60fps, but very good settings.

Get one with a good cooler, 7950's can OC pretty well.
 
7950s do downclock when not running games, if that was your question.

Mine sits at 300 Core/150 Memory (or some numbers in that range) when not in games and I believe all well functioning 7950 cards do this across the board.
