2500K Prime 95 Temps

Hello everyone,

So when I was building my computer and installing the Hyper 212+ I was worried that I let it slide around too much when trying to get the Xbrace underneath it. I decided to not worry about it and figured it was fine since none really came out the sides at all, even though I used a little bit bigger than a pea by accident.

I oc'd the turbo to 4.2 and was running prime 95 for 2 hours at 1.25 volts. But my temps were 65-68 66-68 69-75 69-71 on the four cores. Mind you, it is about 78-82 F in my room at the time (I think that is low 20's C.

I know these are higher than norm, especially since my last setup with an i5 2500k and 212+ at the same OC was never going past 60C on any core.

Do you think these would damage the processor over a long haul? Should I attempt to reseat the cooler?

I just hate doing it, i've always hated applying thermal paste and setting them. I lose all mental capacity when doing it and over worry and screw up, like this, I hope* is the problem.

No way. You would have higher Prime95 temps at stock when using the stock cooler. These are perfectly normal temperatures for a chip designed to run at up to 100C.

I posted in your other thread about the high temps. 75 in prime is warm but not too hot. What kind of work you do? You have to remember prime is an artificial test is supposed to produce max heat. The only time you will hit 75 in normal usage is during 2+ hrs bf3 sessions.

My personal rule of thumb is less than 80 is a must and less then 70 is a plus. But as stated these can run safely up to 100C. (eventhough I wouldn't run it that high for long). At 75 max your fine.
 
Would you suggest me still attempting to re-seat the 212+? Just because I was nervous that it slid around a lot when I installed it.

I just use it for gaming, but some gaming sessions (when I can) go pretty long.

Then if it doesn't go down any further, just dealing with it, or dropping the OC to 4.0 Just until winter.

Can you get it stable below 1.25V for 4.2Ghz ?
 
What is an average voltage for 4.2? I just chose one at random based off of some forum posts.

The thing that makes me think It won't matter is that it was 40 Idle at stock as well.

I'm thinking reseating the cooler will be the best bet. And if for some reason it doesn't change anything, I work on adjusting the voltages some more.

Every chip is different so what may work for others may fail miserably for you.
 
I have a 2500k cooled by a Corsair A70.

It's overclocked to 4.3ghz with 1.22v and the hottest core temp is 56ºC stressing with prime95.
 
well...whatever

my somewhat finicky i5-2500K @4.3 is going to 75C on two cores on prime... i can't run less than 1.32V @4.3Ghz or i bsod....yay...i mean damn it,


whatever of course it is also a blazing 28.8C in the room atm..so that isn't helping so it is a 46~ rise over ambient temps.


this is with hyper 212+ w/ push pull gelid silent 12 fans.


I think** the IHS is either uneven..or wonky on my 2500k I have reseated the cooler THRICE..and everytime there is a 10C delta between the coolest and hottest cores.

but whatever it is totally stable and i'm not going to kill the warr lapping the stupid thing

i wish i could get this stupid chip to run on less vcore but as near as I can figure out it won't.

I'm under 80C so F*** it basically.
