I decided to see how far my i5 would go, while I wait for RMA return of my video card. I've had it 4.5Ghz since installing my heatsink in may. So far I have her going at 4.8Ghz, stable for 4hrs of Prime95 small FFTs and 12hrs Prime95 blend. This is with Vcore at 1.35. Other system specs are

Asus P8Z68-V/Gen3
Kingston HyperX 2x4gb 1333 (OCd to 1600 and 1.525v)
Thermalright HR-02 Macho
Antec HCG 750W
OCZ Agility3 60gb OS Drive

My only concern at this speed is my temps. I'm not sure I want to push any further because I had a tmax of 76C (Core temps 71,76,73,72) both on Core temp and HWInfo. My 670 came in today while I was actually messing with my PC, so I stuck it in and played Dirt 3 for 2 hrs at that speed and temps never got to 50C, pretty much averaging 44C. You guys think I should keep going?

76C is a pretty reasonable load temp for 24/7 operation...I wouldn't shoot for 5Ghz for day-to-day use at this point, unless you can reach it with minimal Vcore increases.

wow, nice chip I wonder what it could do water cooled?

5.2GHz is the highest overclock I've ever achieved on a Core i5 2500K on water.

I'm going to try and beat that Dan.
I have it at 5 GHZ at 1.38 vcore. On an air heatsink... Best chip ever?

I've used two different retail chips. I don't think either of them could do 5GHz on air. Though I've seen plenty of people who had setups that could do it.

I'm gonna keep going till I see 80°C. Right now running small FFTs Prime95 @ 4.9GHz and looking good at 77°C. I bumped vcore to 1.36v.

Are you measuring with CoreTemp / RealTemp or the board's software monitoring? If you are seeing temps that high on the software monitor, you'r about at your max. If that's the core temp, 5.0GHz should be easy, but don't expect much more.

I'm using core temp and HWiNFO64...

If you are using CoreTemp then you should have some headroom left. How much is anyone's guess. I suspect that 5.0GHz+ may require voltages beyond 1.4v and then your temps may skyrocket on you. This could happen at 5.0GHz, or 4.95GHz. You won't know until you try. Then again you could be good for 5.2GHz.

That's pretty darn good. I had my 2500K at 5GHz at 1.39 on water. I somewhat lost interest in pushing it after that, but did hit 5.2 at 1.425 and completed 3D Mark Vantage at that speed. I didn't Prime it though. Never tried for 5.3

this makes me want to oc mine to 5. 4.6 at 1.3 with the temps maxing out at 62 with ibt at max.

After 4 hours of small FFTs. Gonna do blend next.

Is this on the H100?
If so, it's not that different from my HR-02. I was considering the H100 as an alternative to full watercooling, but might as wait to watercool.
