Anyone know what i should do to overclock this system, i have a AMD Sempron 2500+ with a Abit VA-20 microATX board.

im running 2x512 corsair valueselect ram cas 2.5 latency. pc 3200

the sempron stock runs 10.5x166.

im trying to get it to run at 10.5x200 but it wont post at all, neither can get into bios.

i ran it under 166, and did incremental adjustments and the highest i've got was 10.5x180

any idea how i can get the darn thing to run at 10.5x200?

i have decent cooling for the cpu, using as3 with a vantec aeroflow2. tons of case fans too. processor isnt even hot, its like 31c.



i've read some faq's, and they vaugley say that im supposed to use a pin mod of some sort to have the cpu recognized as a different cpu that would run 10.5x200, but those were very vauge so i couldnt look more into it. can anyone direct me in the right direction wether i need to use that pin mod or other ways i can go with overclocking this cpu?
 
nah it wont let me touch it. the only thing i can bump up are the dimm voltage settings.

Dimm Voltage Adjust: 2.54, 2.58, 2.63, 2.67V


its running at 2.58 right now..


guess thats the problem with microATX boards. anyways. any idea what i should do from here?
 
well, if your mobo and ram supports 200mhz, but your cpu can't make it without changing the voltage, it seems you're out of luck unless you figure out a magical way to change the cpu voltage
 
so if i bump up the vcore somehow, it will overclock at 200fsb?

i can do the pin mod where i short 2 holes on the socket. think that'll do much?

what should i bump up the vcore to? right now im running 1.536v

i dont wanna bump it up too high where im frying the cpu.
 
oh ya,

btw.. i know increasing the fsb to numbers other than 133,166,200 might cause instability issues with the pci/agp clock.

i know certain boards had them locked.. if i keep it at 180, is the pci/agp clock locked on my board??

any other suggestions? or is doing a volt/pin mod my only choice to get it running at 200fsb with stable pci/agp speeds?
 
i bought one of them cheap frys sempron 2500+cpu/ecs motherboard combo for my sister and slapped my old but good samsung 512 pc2700 ram with low timings and did 10.5 x 200. 2100 prime 95 stable. i'm pretty sure i could go higher but it was a budget comp for my sis in college. i think my overclock was all by the jumpers in the board and nothing from the bios. i just changed the jumper to detect the cpu at 200 and up the volts of the ram alil bit. i dont remember cause its been awhile but i was suprised how good it overclocked. i just read the manuals for the jumper location. only way to overclock with these non overclocking board.
 
you know, there was a program that let me bump my voltage just a tad bit. I needed it because like you, I had no settings in the BIOS. It only gave me a .5v boost by the way. Not sure what it was called or if it will work for you but maybe it'll fog someones memory.

Otherwise, you'd be SOL on the OC.

linjy2: was that ecs board a via chipset or a nforce2 chipset? thats funny that you mention too because i got this combo at frys also, but it was with a abit board so i felt a little better about buying it rather than getting a doa ecs. what kinda timings did that samsung ram have anyways?

chibial, if you're at 180 MHz, you're doing better than I am...

I've got a Sempron 2500+ and the highest I can get it is 10.5x175. It is running in a Chaintech nForce 2 board that is incredibly stable, but has no vcore adjustment. However, mine will boot Windows at 200MHz, but craps out in Stress Prime after about 30 seconds.
 
ya, i've switched back to the stock speed at 2500..

because i didnt have a 1/6 divider, running 180mhz was making my agp/pci clock run at 72/36mhz, which is fairly close to spec but noticed when i was playing games that things were running incredibly slower.

turns out i guess w/o a 1/6 divider, alot of the files on my hd were getting fragmented and everything ran slow..

pushed back down to 10.5*166 and games still ran crappy.

ran a defrag overnight and everything's back to normal..

im gonna pickup a msi nforce2 later when prices drop. right now they are still around 55 bucks, which isnt worth spending for such a small upgrade IMHO. once they drop in the 20-33 dollar range and are pretty much obselete, ill pick one up then and oc this cpu.

or heck. maybe by then ill just buy a freakin fx-57

it was a ecs with via chipset. i dont remember stock timing on my samsung, but i think i put in 2,2,2,7 or maybe 2.5, 2, 2, 7. them cheap ecs boards seemed to improve since the k7s5a boards i used to build. pretty good they gave you an abit board. was that extra $$? i have a retired abit kr7a that was a damn good overclocker.
