i have been hearing that the anthlon have been getting locked up lately...is that true? Could i still overclock a newer 2500 or would i have to get ahold of an older one?
thx...

you would still be able to overclock the newer locked bartons, by raising the FSB, multiplier is stuck at 11. getting hold of an older one that's unlocked just gives you flexibility of using lower mults.

Yes they are locking them. Yes you can still get 3200+ speeds.

now if i go to newegg.com and get a 2500, could i get it to overclock to 3200 speeds yet?

^ yeah what he says is true, but not sure on the details. why not check out these demon mobile 2500s? have you seen my post?

from what ive seen the 2400+ actually are much better OCers

Can the stock HSF that comes with the 2500+ support the OC to 3200 speeds and not run into heat problems?

they should be fine, i wouldn't actually push it farther than that unless i bought an slk800 or better though.

I paid $100 for unlocked barton and have yet to use the multi; I like the headroom but for less you can probably get the locked one to 3200 speeds with (most likely; I did) no vcore bumping. I went to 208 fsb on mine till it needed a bump up.

I think I'd get a mobile barton 2400 or 2500 though; people have been doing amazing things with them especially considering their native fsb is lower.
