Ok I'm a bit noobish when it comes to OCing. But I've read as much as I needed to learn how to do it. So here's what I'm running at:

Athlon (non M) Barton +2500 OCed: 12 Multiplyer x 200 FSB. @1.85 Vcore (with a Cooler Master Aero +7 heatsink/fan cooler)
You do the math and the Proc should be pumping at 2.4Ghz, right?

Mobo: ASUS A7NX8-E Deluxe
RAM: Kingston DDR333 (PC2700) 512MB.

Now, CPU-Z says the Multiplyer is at 11x but how is that so when in my BIOS shows it at 12? Also the Vcore shows it's running at 1.905. Is their something wrong that I'm doing/not doing? Is the ram limiting me? IS CPU-Z showing accurate results?

Also, can I push my Proc any higher? If I switch the Multiplyer to 13, 13.5, 14, it won't let me boot up. Right after the BIOS, a message is displayed saying something similar to "Please change your processor speed (multiplyer) back to it's original state". Is this due to the fact that it's "locked"? Is it even safe to push the multiplyer that high?

According to the CPU Data base (www.cpudatabase.com) from the Hardforums Links, a guy OCed his Barton +2500 & the same mobo as mine to 2695Mhz (2.7Ghz) @ 11x245 with just a nice heat sink fan.

So... wtf?

Definitly sounds like the multi is locked. That would explain why CPU-Z still shows 11x. Could be wrong though.
 
Your CPU is multiplier locked at 11.

11x200 = 2200 (which is the clockspeed of a 3200+).

It even says your multi is 11 in CPU-Z.

The Barton 2500+'s have been locked since week 34, I believe. If you bought your barton recently, it's highly unlikely that your CPU has an unlocked multiplier. Go by what CPU-Z says. The BIOS may reflect the changes you made to the multiplier, but your clockspeed will not change, and your multiplier will not change in CPU-Z.

The vCore shows as 1.9 because of fluctuations in power from your power supply. THIS IS NORMAL! If you had your vcore at 1.6v, you may see it at 1.55 to 1.65 depending on the quality of your power supply. Most high quality power supplies have steadier rails, so, there's less fluctuation.

It could also be a sensor issue, with the sensor reporting +/- the voltage actually applied. The only way to really know is with a voltmeter, but it's really not that important unless you know that actual voltage is an issue.

I wouldn't take the results on CPU Database too seriously. Sure, it's a good site for guidelines, but come on, you're not going to hit 2650 with a heatsink and air on the average 2500+ Barton CPU. Don't forget, overclocking is never guaranteed, and there's no sense in hoping for an exact result.

My max on air is 2350MHz, at 1.85v on the core. I eventually backed down to 2200MHz at 1.7v and saved on temperature; I noticed no performance difference (only 150MHz).

You can try to push it farther, but I suggest doing some more reading first.

You shouldn't need to run at 1.85v for 2.2GHz on a 2500+... and if you do need to run that high of a vcore at that speed, consider yourself lucky for even making it that far.

Do you know about stability testing? I suggest Prime 95. Put it into google and run the app for 12 hours or so. I recommend these settings for you.

Multi: 11x (stock)
FSB: 200MHz
vCore: 1.7v or 1.75v

If you're unstable at 1.7 or 1.75v, then either lower your FSB or set a divider so that your ram is not running so overclocked. I don't know how much you'll get out of that PC2700 RAM.
 
Remember that you can also run the memory at a different speed than the FSB with that motherboard, but that really hurts the performance. It might be a good way to find the maximum of your chip, then maybe spend some good money on some ram!

if that's true, am i just lucky? i hit 2.6ghz on a 200mhz FSB and 2.42ghz on a 230mhz FSB, and i'm on air. sure, it's an XP 2800, but it shouldn't make that big of a difference. links below.

bad thing those sticks of yours weren't hyper x 2700, then they might have done like 220MHz stable..so what are you ordering?
 
i have 3200 DDR unbuffered/non ecc from crucial to put in.
i can send it back if you have any suggestions that would might make my (msi K7n2 delta L, and barton 2500+) work better.
i have been away for a while and the crucial is still in the box.

i want to run at:
fsb 200 mhz
11x
fsb spread spectrum OFF

i have done it and my system picks up my cpu as a 3200+. i didnt leave it like that because my DDR im using now is 2700. i will change it and leave it at 3200+ when i get ram figured out.

thanks for any ram suggestions you may offer.
