2500 frames?

I am new to folding... just started on Sat. I have had 3 completed WU's, all three were 250 frames...

but the last one I got was 2500 frames? And its going to take 41 days?

I was just curious as to if this was normal.

thanks for any help!

Chris

Yep, it's normal. What protein is it? It'll be listed in the log file as something like p1141_RIBO_FSpeptide_HEL_nospring, and then you can look it up here.

Also, the counter won't be accurate until it's finished at least one frame. It may also advance 10 frames at a time, further confusing the issue.

Are they frames or steps.
The frames are the major save points so that if you shut it down you dont loose all the work.
The steps are the number of iterations the work unit needs to do to be fully folded.

Luck........ :D

It is very unlikely that it will take 41 days.
The best thing to do is get EMIII (see sticky) and use that to monitor on a windows box.
Welcome aboard!!

Just wait until you get your first 7500 frame WU. That scared the crap out of me. It actually went pretty quick though.

Welcome aboard! Assuming you're running windows go grab EMIII.

If not, look to the sticky to see great Linux monitering apps!

Great to have you!

What also will be giving you the insane times like that - if you haven't yet completed a frame to benchmark, they give some insane amount of time for WU completion...wait a little while and you'll see that drop quickly.

They have 7500 frame WUs? I thought the highest was 400, at least according to the Stanford page.

Man, I just got a 600 point Gromacs, on my notebook of all computers. Damn, it will be toasty.

I have EM3 downloaded, and it was telling me the same thing :) But you guys were right, it was all becuase the 1st frame wasn't completed, now the time seems to have adjusted... its got about 28 hours left!

Its protien p_800_p53dimer800
gromacs core.

Thanks for the help!

Chris

Remember guys there is terminology at work here.
Frames=how many "chunks" the protein goes through, it used to be it only saved the protein at the end of each FRAME. Thus if you had to shut your system down you would always try to check to see if it had just finished a FRAME. Otherwise you may have discarded hours of work.

Steps are small portions within the frame. Some proteins may now be saving themselves between frames. YMMV.

heh, i just got one on my A64 system -- 35m36s per frame!

Yah. My 3400+ S754 takes about 29m10s. They are almost as nice as the 300+ pointers.

How many points will the 2500, and 7500 Frames be worth?

Do different cores get different points? Do they process at different speeds? I Notice different cores mean different Frame completetion speeds, and difference Frame sizes.

I was just curious. So anyone that could explain that would be great!

Thanks!

Chris

yeah, the bigger/longer a WU takes the more points you get.

if you look in your EMIII folder there's a prog called "EMIIICalc" or "EMCalc" or "Calc" or something like that, that should let you know point values.

This page explains the point philosphy and how they get the values. This page has a listing of all curently running projects. Hope that's what you're looking for. :D

Also, like CF said, EM3 will give you the information on the unit and how much its worth.

ok.. ok.. ok... I think I am getting it now..

I see the points in the microscope.... i see the points system in the Calc... I understand the links that were given... so its all starting to come together in my tiny little brain...

But I do have a couple of other questions.. or it might just be one big question.....

1. Time per completetion of a frame. I see a couple of posts up above that say "my system did "35m20s" per frame, etc..... Does this change per protein? The 1st few i did, it was around 15 minutes a frame... the current one is 26m a frame... Does it change from protien to protien?

2. I Understand what a "frame" is, a save point, etc... so on the main working screen of the F@H screen, where you can kind of see the protien rotating, and their is some info on the side.. there is a heading called

Frames Completed:

875/7500
20s/Frame
842/7500 (estimate)

Can someone explain the difference from that "frame" and the frame in the mircoscope that says 11/100 frames completed?

I can do the math... 11/100 is the same as 875/7500... but why are they both called "frames"? Thats where my confusion lies!

Thanks again!

Happy folding!

I guess next I have to learn how to put my folding stats in my message :)

ok i did all of this

"1. Go to http://www.hardfolding.com

2. Under the "Member Info" menu

- Click "Folding@Home Stats" or "United Devices Stats"
3. Scroll down until you see "Find Member" and a search box

4. Input your personal folding name in the box and click "Submit" (as of yet this search feature is not on the UD page, so scroll through to find your name)

6. Click on your name once it comes up
a. It should be the first name that pops up on the list
b. If your name is not there:
i. Make sure you have finished a WU
ii. Check to see if you typed your folding name right
(both in the console and in the search)
iii. Check to make sure you are folding for team 33 ([H]ard|OCP)
7. Scroll down to the bottom of the page.

8. Now look for the very last line that starts with "javascript:" and ends with "halt;"

For Internet Explorer (IE)

9. Highlight the entire line and copy (Ctrl-C or right-click "Copy")
Such as:
Code:
"javascript:document.vbform.message.value=document.vbform.message.value +
' |URL=http://www.hardfolding.com?go=38&id=285]
|IMG]http://www.hardfolding.com/ftag1.php/mem/285.png[/IMG][/URL]'; document.vbform.submit(); halt;"
10. Click on:
-Favorites
-Add to Favorites...
-Rename "[H]ardfolding.com - [H]ome of the [H]orde" to "[H]" (its what I do..)
-You can select "Links" for the folder to save it to
-This saves it to your "Favorites/Bookmarks" that are seen from your main window
-If you cannot see it:
-Click on "View"
-Toolbars
-Then make sure "Links" has a Check-Mark next to it
-THEN go to the Bookmark you just made; [H]:
-Right click, select Properties
-Delete anything thats in the "URL:" Line
-PASTE the code you copied earlier from hardfolding.com stats page
-Click "ok"
-A popup will say: "The protocol "javascript" does not have a registered program. Do you want to keep this target anyway?
-Click "Yes""

Now is there something else I need to do? my Stats still doesn't show in my post.

Thanks again!

what browser are you using?

you need to drag the code thing and make a little button: mine looks like a [H] with a page next to it (i'm using firefox)

then press the button and it'll automatically insert stats and click the "post" button for you

Have you made sure you're using the standard interface? The WYSIWYG editor doesn't like to work with these snippets of code, you need to use the Standard post interface which can be found in your user control panel under options all the way at the bottom of the page.

Ah, it was the click and drag it into the POST i didn't understand. Now it works... I knew there had to be a step missing. It was click and drag the link from favorites into the post!

I was using IE, and I was using the standard editor.

Thanks guys!

np, congrats on getting your stats working! the hardest work is done--now all you need to do is make them bigger ;)

Glad to see it working, and we are working on finding some more competition for you ;)

- Fold [H]ard - - Or go [H]ome -

I think my Pentium M 1.8 is doing them at about 31 minutes a frame. The notebook's actually keeping pretty cool on its own (since I don't have a fan to blow on it) but the internal fan kicks in every minute or so. Hope that's not bad...

My P4 HT is crunching two 450-point QMD cores at about 33 minutes for one instance, and 35 for the other one. If I were running just one instance, it's down to like 22 minutes.

hehehehe... competetion.. i dont think im much competetion...just a little CPU trying to do its part...

and I have no machines to borg.... so.... i am sitting in place 5100 or so.. i dont see me breaking into the top 100 anytime soon.. :)

esp with these huge WU's, it will be days before i get my next WU :)

Again thanks to all!!

Happy folding!

hey, I might catch up! :D

Of course my work machine is working on a 7500 frame monster that will take > 2 days before it's done,

My home machine finshied its first 250 frame WU and is working on a 2500 frame.

I'll have to se if dad will let me VNC into his machine and borg it.
