Hey guys. I am trying to get my first ever build set up and I have been looking for a graphics card. My budget for this graphics card is about $250. What would you guys suggest? I want to use this computer to play games like Skyrim and Battlefield 3

Also if you would recommend any other parts I should look at that should be great!

Tell me what you guys think of the build so far!

gtx660 will be out in a few days for under $250 so that might be a good option.

yeah I stopped using imageshack a while back and now use picturepush for forums.

Also when you say gtx660 I am finding many different gtx660s by all different companies. for example, gigabyte, msi both have this? Does Nvidia release the technology and these companies put it inside there own graphics cards?

gtx660 is going to be much faster than the gtx560 so the vram is not the only reason to get it. but yes 1gb of vram is already a limitation in some games so having more will help.

nvidia and amd just make the gpus and then have board partners that make the cards. there is typically a reference design that partners can go by but they will usually also offer non reference designs with better coolers and components. its been that way ever since I have been following computer gaming.

EDIT: you are linking to the gtx660 ti where I was talking about the plain gtx660 that will launch next week.
 
what kind of difference am I going to see if I purchase this gtx compared to a videocard that is about $250?
 
Skyrim is relatively easy to run, but Nvidia cards tend to run BF3 better than AMD cards. The upcoming 660 should be the perfect card for you.
 
If you're that tight on money, buy the 7850 Hawk, and live with random black screens lol.
 
I don't think the GTX660 is going to do to well against the 7850 to be honest, unless you only compare stock settings.

Even the crappier 7850's are capable of 1200 core, its about normal, if you have the 7850 Hawk 1250+ isn't a problem lol, which is basically about as fast as my Galaxy out of the box, and it didn't go much higher.
 
There are 7850s for ~180 after rebate, and maybe without rebate soon enough

Also, 7870s for ~210 after rebate as well

The 2GB on these cards will be more than enough for 1 monitor and your resolution. From a price standpoint it is really not worth it to go for the gtx660 unless it really comes down to $250. But otherwise at its ~$300 price point you'll be going over budget by a lot after considering tax.

7870 would be right at your budget after tax and would be close to GTX 660 performance after OC, and even if you dont OC... still better from a performance/price standpoint.

You can also find used or on sale 6950s for ~200 or less.

The 7870 seems to be more prone to the random black screens of death though, I don't think anyone understands how pissed I am I gave up my 7850 for a 660Ti for more money just to have a stable rig lol.
 
660ti seems to be best choice for you. However if you find its price a little above your budget, then it had better to consider 7870 which falls within your range.

7870 ran fine on mine. I was in the middle of a price drop so I sent it back for 7950.

Because of your experience with ONE card, you want to make that generalization?.... If it was widely reported by users or ALL 7870 cards that they would get crashes then you might have a case, but even then...
