250 GIG Maxtor Question

Well I went up to compusa today and bought the 250gig 7200rpm Ultra ATA/133 8mb cache harddrive to replace my old and still in very good condition 30 gig maxtor diamonmax plus 8 (2mb cache)or something like that.
Well I installed OS (Windows Xp Pro) and then i hear like whole bunch clicks like you hear on them old 900mhz pcs like they are working their asses off.
Well it does this noise just when I open any programs. So my question is if this is normal or not? cause my old maxtor never made a sound like it.
