24pin board using 20pin PSU ?

Well it seems I've hit anther wall in building my system. I forgot these new boards take the 24pin PSU connector. Here's my question though: Im currently running an Orion 480W (Max 400W lol) and will a 20 to 24pin converter work? I don't really have the funds to invest in an expensive PSU right now.
 
sadly, you will need a new PSU... with native 24 pin, You can go from 24 pin to 20 pin, not not backwards

yes they will run, but the board is designed for the extra 4 pins to be powered
and yes you can use a converter to split the power on 3 of the leads (the fourth is a ground)
but not all 20 pin supplies are geared towards the needs of a 24 pin board

thus you need to determine your actual needs and the suitibility of the supply to fulfilling them before Id recommend an adapter

watts mean next to nothing, its the proper distribution of amps to the specific rails
and how much the PSU manufacturer cooked the books when rating the supply

the last place to get cheap is the PSU
run the computer out of the cardboard box the mobo came in before getting cheap with the supply
youll be better off in the long run ;)
