I'm a proud owner of a 360 - and really enjoying it! But I'm also seriously thinking of getting a PS3 also - almost did on Saturday but held myself back for now :p

Anyway - the question. I have a Dell 2407WFP Rev A04 and some Logitech X-530's that I connect up my 360 using the excellent VGA cable which has the seperate audio connectors.

If/when I grab my PS3 - I am not sure on how I should go about connecting it up to my current set up. I'm thinking of using a HMDI -> DVi cable, however - how would I connect up my sound to my speakers? Would I have to use the multi-av out on the back of the PS3?

I could connect the PS3 using component so I don't have to disconnect the DVi port each time I want to switch consoles - but I'm unsure as to the quality of the image and I'll loose HDCP for my blu-ray. I'm could connect my 360 via component - but again, I'd rather not?

 lol - I do plan on getting a speaker set up that uses a digital connection eventually, but that'll be in a couple of months as it's not really a priority as the speaker have sound great for me.

Any help or advice would be helpfull!

PS3 has 3 sound output options.

1) HDMI
2) Optical
3) A/V multi-out

Guessing from your step up, you will use the A/V multi-out.

Get the PS3, you will enjoy it :)

I have both myself and play more with my PS3 than my xbox.

In the future when you get the 5.1 setup, make sure the receiver box has at least 2 optical inputs. One for your PS3 and the other for your Xbox360.

PS: I would connect the PS3 to the DVI, Xbox360 to component, and computer to VGA.

I have the same monitor as you and this is how I am currently set up.

Thanks for the info. Good point about the speaker set up with dual or more optical inputs - hadn't thought of that.

I think that has kind of helped it be a little clearer. I'd rather purchase everything at once (cables etc) so I'll be on the look out for a HDMI to DVI cable (and maybe a DVI switch) and multi-av cable.

Any recommendations?
