Seems that I can't do D-Sub p-in-p DVI, and the other way round? I can only get the dvi mode to p-in-p the components / svideo but not dsub.
 
Not much of a question really, even though you put a qustion mark on the end. You just stated it yourself: The PIP function doesn't support using D-Sub and DVI at the same time.
