Where can I find this driver ? My Cat 5.6's detect the display as a 2405FPW, but it's listed in display properties as plug and play monitor. I looked on the cd that came with the monitor, but didn't really see anything. Maybe I am going blind or something.

Nope you are not, some of the Dell CDs indeed don't have the necessary files in them. Hopefully someone has a direct link to the Dell support driver download section because you need a service tag to access it.

I know....WTF!!!...I just searched my cd again, and there is a readme that talks about installing a driver for XP and 2K. It mentions a 2405FPW.INF file that is nowhere to be found LOL

While you wait for a reply, give Dell a call 1-800-289-3355 and see if they can give you a link to download the driver. Just try to get past their generic routine answers otherwise they can go on forever trying to trouble-shoot for you about things that you never even mentioned.

Haha, I found it. It's on Dell's ftp! Just look for this file R91058.EXE in /monitors/.

What is the point of installing the monitor drivers? I didn't install anything with my 2005fpw and I'm wondering if theres any reason to.

I think monitor drivers tell the computer what the native resolution is. I know that my fathers Dell was not capable of 1680x1050 (2005fpw) until I installed the drivers, then it adjusted it automatically. Other than that, I have no idea. Also if you are hooking your $400 monitor up to intergrated onboard video, I think you need to have your head examined, I hooked it up for testing purposes, as my comp wasn't finished for 3 weeks later.

I have my power settings set to turn the monitor off after 10 minutes. With the 2405 installed with no driver, the monitor would turn off but wouldn't turn back on when the mouse was moved. With the driver installed everything works as it should.
