2405FPW Buzzing: I've had it!

So like most forum members here, I purchased this amazing flat panel over the summer. I had heard the stories of back-lighting, dead pixels, and.... the "buzz" factor.

Much to my delight, the first few weeks of operation were stellar. None of the reported problems, I was in LCD heaven. Then over the course of the very hot summer, I noticed a faint buzz had developed. It didn't bother me much then.

Fast-forward to today, where, hot or cold, the monitor buzzes. Quite percetibly too, it's not my imagination; it's there, it's loud enough to disturb me when I'm working at my computer. I just can't fucking stand it ANY longer.

Now my question is for those that have experienced the buzz: For those that have sent in replacements, are they fixed? Do they still buzz? From the Dell US forums, apparently they are aware of the problem:
http://forum.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_monitor&message.id=49292

But I'm in Canada. Anyone have any ideas?

How hard can it *really* be for Dell to fix such a glaring issue as BUZZING (which I'm guessing originates from the on-board AC/DC converter)?

Anyway, this is my rant, I feel better having said it. I've been going nuts lately with this buzz. As I spend a lot of time at my computer, the buzz noise has almost permanently scarred my brain tissue!

Just remember if you exchange it you will get a refurbished one that may have worse symptoms. In other words you will be getting someones LCD that could have dead pixels, backlight bleeding, more buzzing etc. They only exchange with a new one in the first 30 days.

dose this problem plague the fpw2001 as well??? i was considering getting one, but it may be one to many problems and ill take my money else where if thats the case

About the only thing the 2405fpw and 2001fpw have in common are the Dell brandname...and the fpw :p

They are two entirely different monitors inside and out and any similarity of issues would be pure coincidence ;)

If you're that concerned then you ought to google phrases like "2001fpw problem" or similar phrases like that.

They sent me a refurbished one and I was within the first 30 days. The refurb buzzed 10x worse than the original. I sent it back and called them again and demanded a new monitor. I said, "I paid for a new monitor, I feel like I should get a new monitor." She made a note on the RMA and sure enough, I got a new monitor a few days later.

Like i mentioned in another thread, i recently received the 2405 and in the service menu it states my unit is a V2.0 unit, and i get zero buzzing and it's very quiet, so possibly check to see what version you have by activating he sevice menu, if you don't have 2.0 then ask for it explicitly from dell as a replacement.

Thanks for the input guys.

Will be calling Dell tonight and asking specifically for a V2.0 replacement, and NO REFURB REPLACEMENT for me.

grrr

if my room temperature is high, I hear the buzz.
Used to be that way for me, but fall has arrived and my room is always cool. Yet it still buzzes.

for my unit, when the temperature is higher, it buzzes sooner. but now that its getting colder, the unit takes longer before it starts buzzing.

you people are so damn picky! omg
I thought i was bad. Dont tell me you poeple return them even for 1 dead pixel?

as they should, they bought a perfect moniter, they should recive and be able to use a perfect moniter, as long as its in the warrenty period, they should be able to return it as that is a flaw in the device...

Man I used to think like that... "oh it's nothing, it doesn't _really_ bother me..." and on it went.

Now I'm just fed up. I forked over a lot of money (true, other comparable LCD panels are more expensive -- but it's no excuse) for this thing, and dammit if I'm gonna make myself suffer at the risk of being 'picky'.

1 dead pixel out of 1900x1200 wouldn't bother me because it wouldn't interfere with my work. But when it's late at night and I'm working and the only noise is that damn buzzing, it's a real nuisance.

That sucks to hear...no pun, I swear.

I really wish Dell would offer up another coupon deal so I could buy two or three and give some feedback (c;

I had backlight problems with the first "new" monitor, got a 2nd "new" repacement had 1080i problems, 3rd monitor was a refurbished and was better than the new ones, its perfect.

What does "refurbished" indicate anyway ? I mean, people send monitors back usually with good reason (like my first one with 9 dead pixels).. what in hells name can Dell do with a screen with 9 dead pixels .. it's not like they can fix them or anything.. so where are all these "refurbished" screens coming from ? Is it where ppl have sent them back simply because they didn't like the bloody thing ?

Refurbished are broken and or damaged screens that are "repaired" at the Dell factory and then sold for a lesser pricer then new. As far as I know, theres nothing they can do to fix dead pixels so the likely case is they replacing the LCD panel.

I don't know the innerworkings of Dell but I would "theorize" that the panels sent back from people who just didn't "Like" the LCD are probably resold as new. Wal-Mart did that all the time.
