choices for 1000-1300 are down to the dell or a 32" benq

the dell being 1080p and the benq being 720p native

im only wondering if the 2405 is HD capable at all...it certianly has the res and the component/dvi input...but how does it treat various signals? (480i, vs 480p, vs 720p, etc)

dell's site totally LACKS any details, as do most reviews and it doesnt seem like it can handle HD formats at all.

I'm using my 2405 as an HDTV although not through component inputs. For whatever reason it cannot scale 480p and 480i geometrically correct via the inputs (it's stretched under any mode). 720p looks and works fine though, not sure about 1080i or 1080p but I'm not getting my hopes up :(

why do you think that is? kinda scares me from a 2005

Be nice if the 2405FPW could do 1080p with just exact pixel counts(bit of black on the sides)... I'd hope a exact mode is always available. It's not?

Over DVI it will stretch the entire image to fit the screen as if it's 1920x1200. At least that's what happens if you select 1920x1080 res in Windows, the monitor can't tell the difference between the two.. I'm not sure if 1080p will even work over component as component has more limited bandwidth. I think anyways (someone correct me if I'm wrong), and the fact the monitor is poor at scaling other resolutions, has anyone tested 1080p? I have hopes that the next gen consoles will have native support for 16:10 monitors though, as they are more common now. I've also read somewhere on these forums that the PS3 will upscale 480p content so hopefully there won't be a lot of issues using the monitor as an HDTV in the future. I've noticed there are external resolution scaling devices that would be perfect for this monitor but they cost 2x the amount of the 2405 alone... I wonder why? Does anyone know if any DVI or HDMI tuners exist that could be used to properly scale the image via PC?
