2405fpw and ghosting

My monitor up untill last week was a nec1765. 16ms black to black pixel, loved that thing but it was time for somenthing that could do higher rez. One of the main reasons i decided on the 2405 was because of the pixel responce, 16ms black to black.. so i figured i wouldnt notice the difference.... wrong! sometimes i want to pull this thing out anf go back to my 17". I dont get it, why is this dell so much worse than my nec with the same specs?

Is it possible that maybe its just my monitor? A friend of mine got his the same day i got mine, i spent maybe 10 min on it and didnt notice as much ghosting at all but it wasnt really enoulf time to make a decision.

Anyone noticed more or less ghosting between 2405's?

Also, if i decide to have dell send me a new one, should i bother trying to tell them its ghosting? or should i just make something up saying that there is a yellow line down the middle of the screen or somethin,

I used to have a Hyundai L90D+ and now have the 2405. I don't notice a difference in ghosting between the two and the Hyundai has 8ms responses time. Actually, I do no notice any ghosting or blurriness when playing KOTOR2 or farcry. Then again, maybe it is me. There are people who are sensitive to these things. However, the picture quality of the Dell is much better than my ex-Hyundai. Maybe it is your monitor. I have been luck will all my LCD purchases, no dead pixel or any problems yet.

I got mine yesterday and put it through it's paces through a range of games. HL2, CS Source, Unreal Tournament 1, Psychonaut. I can't detect any ghosting or blurring at all. Bare in mine I just upgraded from a 21' Dell P1110 which uses a Sony Trinitron tube. If there's ghosting, I definately can't see any. I played all of the games at 1920x1200 using a 6800GT through DVI.

Will also be getting mine soon off ebay, Iam also upgrading from a dell monitor (19" P990) which has served me well right from the first day I got it (the day the PIII was released).
My worry is the black level and what its going to look like running DOOM3.

Maybe I will go home and reinstall Doom3 to see how well the blacks stack up. So far the only problem I have with the monitor is regular dvds look like ass, which really isn't the monitor's problem. HD material looks awesome though.
 
You are not gonna get much better blacks than the 2405FPW out of an LCD. A lot of this comes from what panels they use. I have to study them more myself as I should have BEFORE I bought one. As of right now it looks like in Dell's line up you have PVA's like this 2405... awesome blacks, bit slower then their IPS panels which have lower quality black. So you pick what you prefer, something like that. Correct me on terms if ya like anyone. Being that I bought an lcd, little late to do my reseach so I'm just doing it some boring day I got my feet up with nothing else to do. :eek:
 
DVD's will look crap, what do you expect if your doubling the size of the video due to the high resolution of the monitor?

use a media player that allows resizing in fullscreen mode, set it to resize to something 720p size. The conversion would probably look better than the stretching done at 1920xXXXX

Such as? I doubt just resizing is gonna help if the actual source hasn't increased in pixel.
 
Get something that applies resizing filters. I know that TT using Bicubic resizing by defualt and it looks a hell of a lot better than using somthing like WMP or WInDVD.

Again in fullscreen it actually changes the resolution

On top of that using Media PLayer classic allows better resizing filter.(as said) Bicubic and so on
 
I think samsung overrates thier lcd's. I have an nec, lg, and now samsung panel. The samsung is the only one that blurs noticably and its supposedly the fastest on of the panels ive owned. If the hp l2335 didnt have the backlight issue, i would have stuck with that one. The contrast is noticably better on the 2405 though.
