2405 Adjusting brightness/contrast

Well I finally got my Dell 2405 and am pretty lucky no dead pixels and no backlight bleeding for me so to me its a perfect monitor, except 1 little detail.

It's hooked up through DVI and its on Input 2 and resolution is 1920x1200 and 60 hz.

However The onscreen menu won't let me adjust any settings like brightness/contrast etc every option in every menu is grayed out and wont let me change any settings. (Cant even select them other then "Exit")

Is there a way i can change these settings or am I stuck with Dell's adjustments?

Will appreciate any help and thank you

Through DVI you cannot change anything in regards to color, tempature ect..ect.. because DVI is *true* digital from the video card to the monitor unlike VGA which is digital/analog/digital which results in quality loss hence why you can have those controls in VGA mode but you loose picture clarity as a tradeoff.

You can adjust Brightness in DVI but thats about it. Everything else that you wanna tweak will have to be via the drivers on your machine or go back to VGA mode, there is no way around it.
 
I'm pretty sure this is normal, although you should be able to access the brightness and color controls.

I wouldn't mind knowing the reason behind this myself. If I were to guess, it would be that since its a digital signal, something like contrast no longer makes any sense. The monitor already knows that "0" means black and "256" means white (or something along those lines)

Whereas if you are using an analog VGA connection, the display doesn't necessarily know what signal stands for "black" and which signal stands for "white", so you have to do some manual calibrations.

Ah yes, my bad. color you can adjust in DVI mode, along with brightness. Due to the nature of DVI having the true and accurate signal from the videocard, the monitor does not need to be adjusted for compensate for data loss and clarity as it would in VGA mode.
 
Thank you I wanted to make sure, this my first DVI-capable monitor so wanted to make sure everything was ok :)

It's usually my luck to get something defective but so far this monitor hasnt given any problems whatsoever
 
Dont want to make a new thread but I was wondering with DVI if there is anyway I can run certain games in 4:3 mode instead of having the game stretched.

The scaling option in the menu is grayed out but be nice to actually run games in 4:3 that may not look good in widescreen at all.

I.e. I want to run a game in 1600x1200 but not have it stretched can I do it?

Change the ratio options within your video card driver settings, but I hope you enjoy having bars on your monitor.
 
Huh? You can just set the LCD to 1:1 when you're in the game - I have BF2 running in 1600x1200, but it's so huge anyway that I don't even notice the bars...
