I recently installed an xclio 450bl which came with 24 pins. However my motherboard can only accept 20 pins, so I bought a cheapo connector that allowed me to connect the power supply to the motherboard. Is that going to cause any problems?

System:
AMD64 3400+
8X DVD-writer
160GB SATA
200GB ATA
250GB ATA
1GB Corsair Valueselect
6800 Ultra

I currently having some issues playing games (Farcry, Unreal 2004) where it is all jittery and eventually locks up and causes the system to restart. I defragmented the HDD that had the games installed and that seemed to solve the problem...I think....

No, everything should be fine. Although my statement shouldn't indicate that it's ok to go the other way (20 pin PSU to 24 pin Mobo connector).

The extra four pins are for the additional current demands on newer motherboards. Since your board is a 20 pin, it's no problem. Some powersupplies, like mine are adaptable for 24 or 20 pin. On my 24 pin connector the last four pins will disconnect for use on a 20 pin mobo.
