Hey guys,

I'm looking for a 24" monitor. I was looking for help on other forums, but one man suggested me hardforum so I really believe & hope you could help me out here. Basically, here's what I'm looking for:

- 24"
- HD support
- great for PS3 games
- good for Blu-Ray movies
- great looking
- good for casual movies played on my computer (Mac mini)
- good for day to day computer tasks
- the ability to connect both Mac mini, PS3 and the speakers at the same time (if possible)
- OK for photo editing (this is sadly the least important point, great to have it, but I prefer to have other things)
- maybe TV tuner built-in (could be cool, but again - PS3, HD & casual work first)
- 350-500$

I'm thinking about Samsung T240HD which probably meets most of my requirements, but I'm definitely not sure about it. Do you guys have any better ideas in this price range? I'm also considering HP LP2475W, but it's above my budget, so I probably won't take it. But there's still a little chance if it's REALLY worth it. What do you guys think about all this stuff? Do you have any suggestions for me? I would really appreciate any help! Thanks in advance

I'm waiting for Samsung F2380. It's 23", not 24, but its a PVA and it has 2xDVI (one for PS3 ;-) and one for my laptop)

Should be available in Europe soon for about 280 - 300 eur, no idea about the US.

It's shaping up to be a great screen.

Thanks man, every new idea is very important for me. Sadly I probably won't be able to wait for it cause my actual old 17" monitor is acting really weird and I'd like to buy a new one in about 1-2 weeks. But I'll remember about your advice and one question about it - as it's 23", does it fully support HD movies? I've thought 24" is the smallest screen who does it

Questions from the first post are still very actual, please guys tell me everything you think about it ;)

Yeah, it's 1080p; I'd slightly prefer a 16:10 screen, but at least with 16:9 I won't have to worry about preserving the correct aspect on PS3, which doesn't have a scaler.

There are even 22" screens that do 1900x1200, Eizo S2242W for instance. I thought about getting the Eizo, but it's very expensive compared to this Samsung (I could get 2xSamsung for a price of Eizo!) and Ezio has only one DVI.

Why bother with TV tuner in the LCD? You can get something like EyeTV and use it with any LCD or your laptop.

I've been looking through some German sites and some claim to have it as soon as 4th June; I hope that's the case.

Love my T240HD. It meets your requirements. I've only used it with 360 and my PC, but I've had no problems. Best of all, if you check the deal sites, you can find them much cheaper than they were a few months ago. I think I've seen them sub-$300.

As far as I understand, the PS3 image is more like this: [____]
and Blu-Ray image is more like this: [___]
So when I buy a 1900x1200 monitor (Samsung T240HD) it'll be perfect for Blu-Ray but when I play PS3 it won't fill the full screen and I will have a small horizontal black strips in the upper and lower side of the screen (which actually looks pretty cool, at least much better than vertical strips) or (worst case) the image will stretch up and down (but T240HD have this 1:1 thing which will keep the ratio correct, right? and eventually I could change in preferences that I want to stretch the image).
And when I have a 1800x1080 monitor like the 2380 I won't have the full HD support right? The PS3 games will look perfectly well and Blu-Ray movies will be boarden or I will have the vertical stripes on the sides of the screen, right?

But as I've told at the beginning, I'm a total newbie when it comes to the monitors so please correct me if I'm wrong

I'll try to get some info about the F2380 in Poland (cause that's where I'm from).
And anyway, what do you guys think about the T240HD monitor? And do you know any other monitors which would better suit my needs?

Thanks!

PS3 and Blue-ray are both 16:9 aspect ratio. Blue ray is 1080p, which is 1900x1080. Most PS3 games are 720p, which is 1280x720, some support full 1080p. Rather than 1:1, you want aspect-scaling. With 1:1 you will see a smaller, centered image on the screen surrounded by black bars. It's useful sometimes, but I'd say far from ideal (no need for all this pixels if you ain't going to use them).

16:10 is nicer to work, but If you go for 16:9 monitor, you don't need to worry about preserving the aspect ratio (some monitors can do that, some don't; Dell 2209WA for instance can't and even though its a great IPS panel, I won't buy it).

F2380 is 1900x1080, i.e. 16:9 and it's an PVA screen, so it should be much better than TN (see the separate thread about it, there's a link to google-translated chinese review).

I had to jump in here, if for nothing else, just to correct the resolutions people keep listing off...

1080p (16:9) = 1920x1080
16:10 monitors = 1920x1200

Also, I've got a very similar thread that discusses a lot of 24" models pros and cons that you might want to look at.

Thanks a lot.

Now here's what I'm thinking about (getting complicated...), but still open for newer & better ideas
Sansung T240HD
Samsung F2380
LG W2453V-PF
HP LP2475W
BenQ V2400W

Also, I'd add one more thing to requirements: the ability to connect Mac mini AND the PS3 AND the speakers to it at the same time. Does those displays support this? Any clear winners / loosers from this list for me?

Any more opinions? I'm going to buy a monitor this week, really need some more advice

F2380 all the way (assuming the cPVA doesnt suck, which it shoudlnt)

for about the same price as the T240, you get perfect scaling for bluray+ps3 and no black bars when gaming, you lose a bit of space compared to 16:10 when working as a PC monitor.
So far its a win/lose situation

And then comes the panel wuality which tides the scale heeeeeaaaaaaavvvvvvvviiiiiiiiillllllllly on the F2380 side. There is really no comparison there and its maybe the most important attribute when buying a screen (sure MOST important by my book)

doesn't it have big lags so it's bad for games?
Here are my candidates for now (T240 HD is GONE, too many complains about it. Each opinion is like "It's great" or "It sucks", and it's like 50:50)

- HP LP2475W (still thinking about this one, it's SO hard to find a bad opinion about this one :) As hard as it is to find money for it, cause this beast is expensive)
- BenQ V2400W (a lot of good opinions about this one)
- Sansung F2380 (but it's still not out yet)
- Dell 2209WA (the only 22 I'm considering, I think it's the best one out of 22's right?)
- LG Flatron W2452V (maybe?)
- Gateway FHD2400 (but I haven't heard too much about it, so it's basically not too trusted in my eyes)

Few more questions about the most important one: WHICH MONITOR DO YOU GUYS THINK WILL BE THE BEST FOR ME?
Does the HP LP2475W have a good input lag for PS3 gaming? Is the Dell 2209WA the best monitor I can get for gaming/casual usage/photo editing from the 22's? Will BenQ V2400W satisfy my needs? IF I will somehow get the money for HP, will it suit my EVERY single need?

Thanks in advance ;)
