Long time lurker, first time poster :D.

I am in the middle of building my new rig and am at the monitor phase. I've had really good experiences with Dell so I was looking at the following monitors:

(2) Dell 24" 2408WFP
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Monitors/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-6272

or (1) 27" Dell 27" 2709W
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/products/Monitors/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=223-9379

Here are the specs of my upcoming build:

CPU: i7 975
Mobo: EVGA X58 Classified Limited Edition
Video: (2) EVGA 295 Co-Op cards in SLI
RAM: 12 GB Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600
CPU Cooler: Thermaltake TRUE Black
Case: Thermaltake Armor Series VA8003BWS
BR player: LG GGW-H20L
OS: Vista Ultimate 64
PSU: CORSAIR CMPSU-1000HX
HDD: (2) WESTERN DIGITAL VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS

This is a gaming/work rig.

Any help that can be provided would be appreciated.

Thanks

Since both monitors run at the same resolution, I can't really see how three inches of extra diagonal space on the 27 beats doubling the resolution by having two 24s. So my recommendation goes with the two 24s.

2 X 24"

It's nice just having a large screen sometimes, but he's correct, it's not going to give you any real benefits over the smaller display. Having a big display has it's drawbacks too

Go for 3 x 22" ;) I've always wanted a triple screen set up for gaming :p

But between the choices you've given... if its for work and you need a lot of workspace, go for 2x24", you get way more workspace. If you dont need the workspace, then 27" is nice for movies and maybe gaming and consoles, otherwise there's no real advantage.

I would go for a 25.5" or 26". I recently had just a 22" so I got a 27.5" monitor but had to retuen it because it was just too big. I litterally couldnt even focus my eyes on things near the top of the monitor even at 3' away.
Now I have a 25.5" Samsung T260 and I love it.

Thanks everyone for your great suggestions. I just plopped the money down on the 2 24" monitors. Now all I need is for the CO-OP cards to be released and I'll be able to finish this new rig :).

I would go for 2x 2409WFP if I were you. The 27" Dell does not offer higher resolution.

Personally, I too am doing the "dual monitor" thingy myself. Currently have a NEC 2690WUXi and an old Planar PX191. While getting another 2690WUXi would be great, the 2nd monitor will only be used occasionally so I will likely pick up a Planar PX2611w.
