I'm in the process of building my new NAS and have 24 hot-swap bays to utilize for my ZFS pool(s) as well as two additional bays on the chassis rear for OS drives.
The NAS will serve large file content (movies and music) as well as host around 15-20 VMs via iSCSI. A couple of the VMs will likely perform frequent small-write operations (such as db writes).
The VMs will be running on a pair of Dell R905 servers so the NAS will only be responsible for storage.
I'm trying to determine how to best utilize the 24 bays available for my particular needs.
A few options I've been considering:

My latest thinking for configuration based on feedback:
System Disks:
VM Pool [3TB Usable]:
VM Backup Pool [4TB Usable]:
General Storage Pool [32TB Usable]:
Any feedback or additional suggestions would be very much appreciated.
