23'' S-IPS over 24'' MVA ALWAYS???

At this point in time, would anyone choose a 23'' Sony SDM-P234/B OVER an A03 Dell 2407 or an Acer 24'' option, considering they're all now at the about same price point?

Even though Sony is discontinuing PC monitors (and this model is 3 years old), does the fact that it's an S-IPS panel and that it has some older favorable reviews make it a better option that the newer 24'' MVA panels?

I guess I'm asking that despite its age and lower specs, is the Sony a better option than ANY current 24'' MVA-based model? Leave BenQ out of this right now, who knows when it will be released and what early issues it may have...I've been putting off a new monitor and it's been almost a year...

I passed up a pretty decent discount a few months back on the sony 23'' because I was waiting for the BenQ release, and I'm sort of kicking myself now...also, wasn't there supposedly some backlight issues with the Sony 23'' panel?

Also, as far as apple goes, I've read that their "new" 23'' ACD has an image persistance problem on many panels, which bears more research before considering that option...

also, is apple using the samsung MVA-based panel in their new 24'' imac? anyone know?

I don't know the answers to all these quesitons. But I would take the Sony IPS over any 24" *VA in a heartbeat. IPS is the top of the heap when it comes to panel technology. Less tone shift than an *VA, no input lag any thing like the PVAs.

Does any other LCD use the same one that is in the Sony 23" ? I am also curious whether this 3 year old technology is better than the newer panles we can get?

You're not going to get too many reviews about the sony because it costed $1200 just a short while ago and people are cheap and don't care about thier eyes... much rather blow thier wad on a dual core they don't need or some useless high performance ram than a decent monitor.. not many here will have them...anyway besides being far superior on color, veiwing agles response and IQ than any mva/pva out of the 23" LGP IPS's ive seen the apples, HP's and sonys and by far the sony is the nicest and feels highest quality. And yes response will be higher. IPS's even 'old' ones have a faltter curve across the spectrum averaging out about 18-20ms while PVA's average out about 25 even though they hit a lower value on one color...thier respponse curve is like a bell curve... There's a reason sony is more expensive it's better. Now that Sony's really blowing these out get it while it's hot.

Apple is a desktop pubishing and photo editors computer, no way would they use anything but IPS in thier desktop displays as it's the best. My guess is they are using LGP's new 24" ASIPS in there. I havent seen one though so it's just a guess based on apples history and market.

Don't clump the S-PVA Dell in with the Acer (and Benq) P-MVA 24".

First of all they don't have the same problems with losing shadow detail in directly viewed dark areas. Secondly they don't have the the same input lag. Thirdly they have less ghosting than any of the other large 23-24 monitors. Bottom line, S-IPS has less color shift than any other technology including P-MVA, but the S-PVA has a lot of other problems that the P-MVA doesn't, the P-MVA has faster real response times than the Sony S-IPS (not sure what other 23" S-IPS are currently available.)

Ghosting? You mean motion blur? Show me. I've never seen a large 23+ MVA or PVA average under 20ms and I read all the testing.

No comment on lag until I see it tested for the ones you mention but the Dell is horrible and thats one OP was asking about...it's totally dependant on electronics inside not panel type so until it's tested for each monitor in question I won't comment.

the Dell was blurry the Acer is much less so imo. It games better than the Dell that's for sure. They could all be better. I never saw a Sony so no comment. I DID have a 24" Sony CRT and I like the Acer just as much.

Does this mean that P-MVA panels dont have that problem?

the lag is part of the VA panels overdrive and exists in all VA based monitors regardless of manufacturer, the samsung has less but still completly unplayable for me.

I haven't seen any testing data on the "6ms" 24" P-MVAs. I know its not really 6ms, but subjectively the blur (panel response time) on the AL2423 seems a lot less than the 2405 and less than the 2407 as well. Have you seen any testing data on the 6ms rated 24" P-MVAs (Acer AL2423 and Benq 241W)? Please link.
