Hi,

I was fine watching my dvd-rips on my previous 19" LCD. Well, typical 700MB movies were not that great but now that I've gone 22" widescreen I find the fullscreen quality of a typical divx movie appaling - it's blocky and, well, ugly, even with 1,3GB (2CD) movies.

The only thing I can stand watching now is original DVDs (8,5GB) and even those show the limit of this encoding technology. Makes one wish HD-DVD or Bluray was more affordable since that's the only format that really shines on these monitors.

So I was wondering, does anyone have a fix for the low quality divx/xvid playback they use for their widescreens? Like a filter or something maybe? FYI, I'm using Media Player Classic and no, windowed movies is not an option :D

How bad is it if you watch it at the native resolution of media player? i.e. if you watch it without resizing it when you open media player. How about at 200%?

If I don't put MPC into fullscreen it's not bad at all at the res it opens at (800*480 I guess), but like I said windowed viewing is not an option for me.

Maybe you can try running it through ffdshow with the smoothing filters enabled. Running at 200% should take up most of the screen.

DVD resolutions are 720×480 (NTSC) or 720×576 (PAL). That is why they look best on TVs which have a very low resolution. You can figure why they look like crap on your 1680x1060 resolution.

HD-DVD and Bluray will be more affordable as time passes. I'm waiting as well.

OK thanks all, running it through ffdshow postprocessing took care of a lot of the blurrines. Thanks again.
