So I started googling and kept getting model numbers that didn't show up in stores. A few of them from this site. I figured since you guys were faster than pcper as far as knowing stuff I might as well ask here.

I got an Ergotron Workfit Dual that was given to me by a friend that works there to help with an injury I have. It is an awesome piece of hardware but it's only able to handle 22 inch monitors, no bigger. I'm not very happy about that, and there isn't a way to convert it that they'll admit to having. I was briefly considering hacking it but decided that might be a bad idea...

So without further ado, what are my options? I am a ( good ) gamer that wants to minimize ghosting and an aspiring CGI artist. By aspiring I mean I've not been commissioned yet. I'm also a perfectionist and will be using this monitor/these monitors for years. I'd love to go from headshots to modeling heads ( Break 'em then build 'em )

What I've heard of so far:
HP ZR22W http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&tag...&field-keywords=ZR22W&sourceid=Mozilla-search

Dell U2211h http://www.amazon.com/21-5In-Ultras...Z1C8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1291752673&sr=8-1

Dell 2209WA http://www.amazon.com/UltraSharp-2209WA-Black-Widescreen-Monitor/dp/B001TOMRIO

So far that ZR22W is looking like the best buy. It does have one scary review about color uniformity. Does HP cover that in warranty / pay shipping?

I was under the impression the 2209WA trumps the other two in pretty much every aspect apart from it only goes up to 1680x1050.

The 2209wa I believe has higher peak luminance. It may have slightly better response times and viewing angles, though I am not how much of a usable difference these make in practice.

The ZR22W/U2211h (use the same panel I believe) should have better contrast/blacks and out of box color accuracy.

You should also check if you can get both Dell's cheaper off Dell.com, due to there frequent "sales" prices.

Awesome. I found out a new requirement in a monitor. The panel itself has to be 14 pounds or under. Panel sans stand...this makes things complicated. I think, so far, this narrows it down to the two dells we've talked about. Since their amazon weights are...

12.19 pounds on the 2209wa and 14.22lbs with stand on the U2211h.

The ZR22W weighs 21 pounds according to amazon, I've asked HP what the weight sans stand is.

This '21.5' inch on a 16:9 aspect ratio is scaring me, I have 2x22 inch monitors on 16:10. How much screen real estate am I really losing?

You will likely have no trouble with heavier LCD's on your ergo contraption. Looking at the construction it seems the weight limits are based upon a fully telescoped position and weighted keyboard tray. Also they have to account for wobbly desks, etc.

Just checked my ZR24w and it doesn't feel much more than 12-15lbs or so without the stand The adjustable stand was quite heavy by itself when I installed the display. The ZR22 and 2209's can't be heavier.

Just a comment on this. You will lose in screen size, both vertically and in total area. However in terms of what you actually display, you gain vertical resolution, horizontal resolution, total resolution, everything is just smaller due to the higher PPI. Of course I am assuming the 16:10 monitor you have at the moment is 1680x1050.

@lawless2142, if you'd weigh it ( use a bathroom scale, weigh yourself with and without it and give me the difference? ) that would make me immensely happy.

@limitedaccess Considering I'm doing Blender 3D I'm likely going to do 1600x900 and have my video card scale it up ( no scaler in these monitors, right? ) so that I can get more at once going in Blender. Similar to lowering the resolution in a game to get higher FPS.

I'd have to make everything bigger to do 1080P on a 22 inch screen. Not sure how much more I'd be able to display on it, LOL.

HP replied to me. :)

HP support said:
Thank you for contacting Hewlett-Packard.

The weight of the HP ZR22w 21.5” S-IPS LCD Monitor (VM626A4) unpacked without the stand is 9.4lbs. I apologize for any frustration you may have encountered on acquiring this information.

I'm reading the U2211H panel doesn't have the same color gamut as the HP ZR22W...google isn't helpful beyond third party reviews and factory specifications. I know monitor specs are sometimes 'creatively interpreted' for advertising. What's up here?

As limitedaccess suggested these do appear to be the same panels.

...answered my own question in making this post. Check the * on the color gamut ont he dell website, then the data sheet for the ZR22W: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/pscmisc/vac/us/product_pdfs/ZR22w_data_sheet_051010.pdf

These are the same panels, what differentiates the HP according to all the reviews I've read are the controls - Dell's are kind meh. I'm going to go ahead and pull the trigger on the Dell monitors.

The 2209WAs are amazing panels, the only issue is that they're still $300 everywhere.

2209WA is discontinued.

2209WA weights ~12LB for the LCD only, mounts just fine on my Ergotron AIO stand. Going to hook up my new Dell 980 SFF system on it too :)

PLEASE tell me the ZR22Ws are better...

Got two U2211H's for Christmas. The amount of backlight bleed ( back light bleed , black screen , google needs to see this ) is absolutely unacceptable. My 5 year old Acer that I paid 180 bucks for beats the hell out of it. In fact, I have a 19 inch samsung that got dropped onto a protruding bolt and has impact and puncture damage on the screen and the point where the pixels are half functioning has less backlight bleed than the U2211H.

My Samsung 225BW is staying with me for another few years. AVOID the U2211H, they have frequent top right corner and top-mid-right backlight bleed issues, and my top left was bleeding for about a 45 degree diagonal inch in. It was so completely and totally unacceptable it's ridiculous. It was like someone was shining an LED flashlight on my screen.

For $420 bucks for the pair I expected something better than my 5 and 6 year old stuff. They must have been high when they made these. Higher than their mascot was.

An Acer AL2216W and Samsung 225BW bought in 2006 and 2005 respectively with probably close to 25,000 hours on them should NOT beat comparatively priced 2010 monitors! ( actually my 225BW was $350. )

Avoid the dell! You've been warned! I'm returning mine and my mother and brother ( who decided I'd get the lion's share this Christmas, it was very nice of them ) were in TEARS when they saw what the warranty replacement ( Dell overnights by the way ) was.
