For the past four years, I've used a pair of 17" Samsung SyncMaster 710Ns. I've been very happy with them up until now, but I think it's time to move on to a bigger widescreen panel.

I use my desktop for gaming, internets, and work/studying.

How happy would I be with any of the following?

Samsung 226BW
Dell UltraSharp 2208WFP

I have used a 2007WFP, and I think it's very nice, if that's a good point for comparison.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I believe that Dell 20" had a better screen then the 22" models you've listed. That said, I have the 226BW and love it. Great for gaming, surfing, etc.

I was just to Dell's site, it doesn't look like they sell the 2007WFP anymore :(

Otherwise it'd be a serious contender here, better to go with the devil you know if you catch my drift.

Okay, it's down to the 226BW and the Acer AL2216Wbd.

On one hand, the Acer is much more affordable. On the other hand, the Samsung has a much more attractive bezel and is a brand I trust more.

Last I checked (and this was some time ago), all the 22"ers are using a TN pannel.

The back light is horrendous and mine defiantly favors green.

but big screen, cheap price :D

Well, I do see backlight bleed on mine, but it's only visible when the screen is blanked. Otherwise, when I'm surfing or gaming, I don't notice it at all. Also, my colors are very nice. The only thing I'd suggest is paying a little more and finding it local, so if you don't like it you can return it with a minimum of fuss.

I find it odd how so many times i see people say they don't notice backlight bleed while gaming. That may be true for games that don't have any dark areas but in games such as Doom or Quake can you in all honesty still make that claim? Every time i've played those on an LCD i could easily notice the bleed. And what about watching movies with black bars? Yuck, don't get me started on that.

While we're on the topic i've noticed that backlight bleed is MUCH less prevalent with LCD TV's. At least with some of the Samsungs and Sony's i've seen, they don't have any bleed at all and their blacks are fairly dark. Why can't the same be done with LCD monitors? The only reason i can come up with is that more time and care is put into manufacturing the TV's.

I really don't have the budget to afford something much more expensive. My old 16 ms Samsung TNs have been fine for years.

Is there anything wrong with the Acer though? Why is it so cheap? It seems too good to be true when compared with the 226BW, at least the S and A panels.

I know it's odd, but even in dark games I don't notice the backlight bleed. The only time I really notice it is when the screen is blanked, then it's horribly noticeable.

I found some better sales, now it's between:

Samsung 245BW
Westinghouse L2410NM

(I realize these are both 24" monitors)

The only reason I'm really considering the Samsung is because Newegg's dead pixel replacement policy scares me. The Westinghouse seems like the clearly superior display.

Isn't that a eizo coloredge?
Last I checked, those were near the $5000 mark...

You should be ashamed.. spending so much money... :(

Wow, you can afford a nice monitor like that but you can't afford a bigger desk? Looks too cramped.
