20gb wont boot!

I have a Hitachi travelstar 20gb laptop hardrive. I formated it as fat 32 and cleared the boot sector. I ran a windows 2000 professional installiation off the i386 folder in another laptop. Then put the drive into my other lappy. It passes the bios then i get a flashing dash _. WTF Is my problem?

also when i start partion magic 7 for dos and go to format it, it says under info that the partition passes the 1024 cylinder boundry and may not be boot able. How do i fix this?

either a BIOS upgrade or DDO (Dynamic Drive Overlay)

I have the latest bios upgrade for my laptop. Not sure about what im supposed to do about a dynamic update, i cant even boot to finish the install on my OS. I have tried the drive in other laptops and it does the same. So i know its the drive

without specfics of the laptop (and its BIOS) its very hard to say

again without knowing the make and vintage of the other laptops...

this is a geometry issue, about how your BIOS reads the HDD
any mismatch in how its actually low level formatted (something that is done only in the factory these days) and what the BIOS is expecting to see....

it could be the drive has a problem, but its too early for me to agree with you, until you research the BIOS limitations in that and the other laptops
