I'm about to purchase a display as a second monitor to be used mainly for graphics and photo/video editing.

There are two monitors available here, within my budget.

The Nec 2090uxi at around 510euros and the HP 2475 at around 570euros.

I know these are quite different monitors.
The NEC is 4:3 and the HP 16:9.
NEC has a polarizer, HP doesn't.
HP is wide gamut too.

For overall use the HP seems more advantageous as it can display FullHD video content, has a newer panel, is faster, etc.
But I do not know how it compares as far as image quality, and black levels.
Have in mind that right now I use a quality CRT for my colour proofing, so I'm looking for a display that could match it as much as possible.

I have seen albovins' review of the 2490wuxi(not available here!) side by side with the 2475, and there is quite a visible difference in black levels and glow in viewing angles.
So does the smaller sibling 2090 share the same properties?

I'd truly appreciate anyone suggestion, preferably with first hand experience on these monitors.

ps: Also available is the 2690 priced at nearly 1200euros, with which I could buy both the2090 and the 2475 and get change :)

Where are you at? Someone posted not to long ago that the 2490wuxi was coming to Europe

TFT Central rates the HP very highly - the NEC is better, but at much higher price. And the NEC is supposed to be available in Europe now, according to TFT Central.

keep in mind its going to be 1600x1200 vs 1920x1200. if between these two monitors was my only choice id go with the hp for more workspace even though it is wide gamut, however you say this will be a 2nd monitor for specifically working in photoshop (or whatever) etc so i would lean more towards the NEC. Obviously the 2490 would be your answer if you could get one in your budget =/

might want to look at this thread i found also http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1258996

It depends on what formats you work with in photo editing. The HP is wide gamut so it can display a larger color space (could be beneficial when working with adobeRGB). However, if you then convert the files into sRGB (or work with sRGB to begin with), you won't notice much difference.

Thanks all for your replies.
The 2490 would be ideal but is not available here in Greece for now. Buying from another EU member country is not an option as the local reps will not cover the warranty if something happens... (I had already thought of bringing the 2690 from the UK).
Even if the 2490 was available at a price near 1K like twice the 2090 would it be worth it? I think not.
Anyone with experience on the 2090uxi?
