When Wired put out this year’s Vaporware of the Year list the tag line read “Crushing Disappointments, False Promises and Plain Old BS.” Catchy, ain’t it? It adds that something special to earning a spot on the list don’t you think? Here’s the first entry on the list (#10):

Home doesn't even succeed as a Second Life rip-off, owing to the fact that there simply isn't much to do. You can walk around in the mall and spend real money on virtual clothes branded with advertisements, or you can hang out at the bowling alley and play crappy video games. That's about it. Even the avatar creation system is incredibly scaled-down.

Ahhh DNF.

Actually, what will Vaporware list makers do if it ever comes out? Their whole cottage industry crushed in one fell swoop.

I can agree with most of the items on this list

This is a pretty bad year for the list. Why would you list things like IE8, when you know it's going to eventually come out? I can understand maybe games because games get canceled. But a web browser that is 100% without a doubt going to ship?

I swear, 3D Realms trickles out a few pictures or videos every year JUST so DNF can make this list.

Home is trash. I messed around with it for a while and can't figure out how it ads value to my Playstation experience. What would ad more value though is if I could at least download the PAID content on PSN faster.

It has been so long that I forgot about DNF. Crackle's video preview of in-game play made me drool. Hopefully they will release it in 2009 before the next Vaporware list comes out. :p

PS3 Home sucks ass. Perused around on a friend's system and there is very little to do.

Maybe they should just give up on DNF and make a bad Duke Nukem movie instead.

lol Via Nano on the list. FAIL.
Vapor is vapor. ;)

The reality must be keeping up Glenn Henry at night. In a few months, Intel will have a system on a chip Atom (Lincroft update) and it has been shipping dual core Atom for months.

IMO, VIA is either holding back until a Nano dual core, or until a new SoC (a la MediaGX), is almost ready. The only breathing room VIA got was when AMD pushed back Fusion until 32nm (2011).

It's time for longest running joke and quite frankly how can they keep it funded so long video game. Seems every year they promise and fail...maybe its promotional ploy.

Damn...that's exactly what I did in 1982. I can has Tempest?

Note: tempest was not a 'crappy' video game, btw. It was pure kickass, unadulterated bliss.
