Is 2007wfp's coating supposed to look like there's small layer of dirty water?

Pictures: (it's hard to catch with camera to still-photos, but in pictures it looks kind of noise, but it's caused by coating)

It shows especially when there's lots of same - bright - colour. I've also observed other tft's (some Samsung, Viewsonic and Acer) and none of them had this kind of coating. Altough Acer seemed to have same effect but not as bad.

Does all Dell's have this kind of coating or is it just the 2007wfp?

All LCDs with matte anti-glare coating have that, I believe most Acers use glossy coating though.

Name might be same, but quality aint. Like I said, I've also watched other tft's and none of them had coating like that. When I spoke about Acer I did'nt mean their glossy-coating displays.

Do you mean the screendoor effect then?

I think he's talking about the matte anti-glare screen coating that gives things a slightly fuzzy look...my old BenQ lcd was pretty bad unless you were looking straight on which is one of the reasons I went with a glossy coating.

What is the screendoor effect supposed to looke like? This problem I'm describing is fixed, when I move stuff i.e. on desktop, I can see that thing which causes the water-effect stays at the same place and doesn't move with picture/whatever. It shows clearly on smaller than default resolutions also.

I have looked at a number of screens and the matte AG coating looks pretty much the same on all of them to me. The only thing that looks different to me is the glossy screens.

All I see in the pictures is camera moire effect from the two grid patterns (cameras + screen) and jpg artifiacts.

Also I doubt dell does the screen treatment. They get them that way from the LCD maker. So LG S-IPS panel in there should be the same as the Apple 20" cinema screen which I have seen. It looked the same as the 3 different dells I bought with samsung PVA/TN screens.

Mine looks about the same although I think yours is worse. My Rev A01 2007WFP and my first A02 replacement (returned for current due to 2 stuck pixels) didn't show it as much as this one. I barely notice it and it is not nearly as bothersome to me as the banding problem was.

Those pictures hardly have artifacts which would cause them to have no value; non-resized and over 1mB.

And camera is not to be blamed about that, at least not to the degree of making difference.

Here's a comparison picture, taken from 19" Samsung 959NF CRT. Noticeable difference: http://koti.mbnet.fi/~cuthalu/2007wfp/IMG_4748.JPG

Could this really vary - especially much - between individual monitors? :F

If that is what your monitor actually looks like, return it. I have never seen any monitor that looked that bad and I have looked at about 20 different screens.

But to my eyes (and I have taken numerous pictures of my lcd's) This is moire of two overlapping grids. The curved swirl patterns are a dead give away. If you took this with a film camera you would not get this.

Of course it doesn't look like that on CRT as the pixel structure on a CRT is much smaller and less susceptible to producing moire.

Yes, part of the pictures (the swirl) probably is moire, but not all. And 959nf has dot pitch of about 0.25, just like this Dell. And yes, very good film camera might be better way to show this thing.

That's not 100% accurately what it looks like, but it's just as bad, especially with that backround. In some screnarios it's not very noticeable, but lots of same kind of bright color and it looks bad.

I noticed the same thing on my Dell 2001fp lcd ,its like looking through a layer of fine dirt. It was especially noticeable when I was running dual monitors (CRT / LCD) I'd be working with the LCD for awhile then look over at the CRT and notice a much 'smoother' / 'clean' look to everything. Im curious if LCD's with the glossy screens exhibit these symptoms as well?

Nah, with glossy screens it's crystal clear. They are fantastic, but the glare can be annoying in some cases. The almost gritty looking screen is normal for LCD's with the anti-glare coating.

When I look at one individual pixel and then move my head, I can see moire/swril-thing, is it the cause of coating or what?

I'm also wondering if it makes any difference that I've seen mostly 17" or 19" 4:3 tft's? I've seen one ws 19" and one 20" - before I got my own and noticed this annoying water-effect - and what it comes to this, I didn't see anything wrong with them.

Some people simply notice it more than others. I bought a glossy Acer cause i don't like that matte coating. You can either live with it or get a glossy screen.

But why there are so big differences between matte-coatings, what is causing them? And no, I'm not bying glossy, it's just as bad or even worse imo. Luckily there's still some crt's left...
