This year has been awesome for the FPS crowd, and it isn't even over yet. Sure HL2 should have been out a long time ago, but it still dominated the genre for a long time, until BF2 took over for a short while, and now F.E.A.R. is on the shelves along side COD2.

So did the big developers all bust thier nuts this year, or is there anything else promising on the horizon?

What are you looking forward to next year?

The new Legend of Zelda sounds like it's going to be increbile.
Okami for the PS2 looks interesting, but I'll wait for a review before I get it.
HL2's expansion looks great too.
And.... umm.. oh yeah, Gran Turismo and Every Extend Extra for the psp.
(not to mention the new systems)

I hope they didn't bust their nuts, if they did, I better get a reach-around because it's been a little disappointing to me. I figured by Christmas season this year I would be overwhelmed by all these new releases, but it turned out to be the opposite. The only one I haven't been able to play yet is FEAR, so I'll leave that out of my opinion. Q4 was the winner for me, because it didn't let me down, quake is quake and that's that, though the MP left me wanting more of the new, but all in all it was great. CoD2..meh..I'll have to play it more before I talk shit or praise it. I haven't gotten around to installing it since the reformat. I was a hardcore CoD and UO fan, so i'm bound to be let down by something. :)

BF2 tarnished this year for me a bit, don't get me wrong the game is like FPS crack to me, and I haven't had too many problems with the bugs, but regardless EA fucked up on a massive scale with this release and the sad thing is I doubt they learned their lesson. I really wish we could send a message to them via not buying into Special Forces. Yeah it won't happen, because I bet even the people bit by the worst bugs making the game near unplayable will buy it. EA and other pubs now know that they can get away with shipping betas as long as it's a big franchise.

I'm on a thread derail rampage tonight, maybe i just need a break from gaming, and maybe I need to lower my expectations for $50 games. /end bitter.

I cant wait for the new Final Fantasy. May be my last one, I dont know if I want to buy a console.

Case in point I bought an xbox about a year back, I use it as a foot rest. *sigh* wasted money

If you don't use it, then it continues to be wasted money unless you Ebay it.

It's funny, but all the 2006 titles I've heard about so far that I'm interested in have been 2005 titles that were delayed. We'll see if UT2007 actually comes out next year or not...

Alan Wake looks amazing. Also Huxley, I've been waiting for another FPSMMO since Planetside started to get really bad.

I agree. And also, Half Life 2: Aftermath. Actually, no other Pc game has peaked my interest. But, the Playstation 3 has, by far the most appeal for me so far.

Damn. I misread the title and thought it said "2600 titles?" I was all set to get my Atari groove on.

Stalker
The Witcher
Age of Conan
TES4: Oblivion
Dreamfall: TLJ2
Dark and light
Pirates of the Burning Sea
Huxley
Alan Wake
Operation flashpoint 2 (or whatever BI will name their new game, since Codemasters split up with them and kept the op flash name).

mod that badboy, you wont regret it, it becomes so much more functional, as well as a nice little hobby

This year has been kind of meh for FPS games to me. Last year was the bomb with Far Cry and Half-Life 2 :)

2006 games for me are:

Gothic 3 is simply the number one game on my waiting list. Nothing comes close.

Crysis from CryTek
Alan Wake
Far Cry PC expansion (might or might not come out, is it made by CryTek?, who knows...)
Half-Life 2: Aftermath

Live for Speed S2 (final)
Dark Sector
Crashday
Call Of Cthulhu PC

Honorary mention: Project Offset

For me it's been S.T.A.L.K.E.R, but it's been pushed back almost 3 times which is never a good thing. So hopefully it comes out next year.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (you have to check out the trailer!)
Oblivion
Rainbow Six Three : Lockdown (for the PC)
STALKER
Resident Evil 5
Huxley
Legend of Zelda : Twilight

And, drumroll please, badabadabada bing!

Super Smash Brothers Revolution! ( or whatever they call it )

If STALKER doesn't get delayed again, and it's as good as I'm hoping, then that will occupy 6 months of next year for me.

Well, it just recently got delayed: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=12594

In related news, the unfeasibly long delay on PC title S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl continues and the company does not anticipate the title seeing a release before October 2006 at the earliest.

So, maybe S.T.A.L.K.E.R. will occupy 6 months of year 2007 for you :)
