alot of people have this lcd sure but i always see mixed reviews on it

backlight problems / lcd problems etc

how bad / good is it ??

Dont worry about it, its an awesome monitor, and if the backlight bleeding is bad you just rma it and get a new, very simple. The chances of backlight problems are insignificant to how kick ass the monitor is.

And it's freakin' awesome. The resolution is excellent and it didn't have any stuck pixels. Nor backlight issues. Course I WILL be taking out the warranty ;). Just in case. But trust me, for the value it's EXCELLENT!

I have one and love it. I might get another one for Dual. I think the first ones had bad backlighting and dead pixels, but now it's not so common.

very good monitor... its been out for awhile now and its has gone through a couple of revision so ur chance of getting a bad one is less likely

I like it a lot more than the 2405 (which I returned this summer). Better colors, better viewing angles, and much better price/performance (and price per se :) ) Go for it, if you don't like it, all you lose is $20 for return shipping.

P.S.
I am of course talking about price with coupons applied ;)

Better viewing angles on the 2005fpw  I thought the 2405 had better viewing angles?

It does. The 2405 has an 89 degree viewing angle. How do you get any better than that? 90 degrees means you are looking at the side of the monitor. :)

The 2005 has an 88 degree viewing angle. Other differences vs the 2005: 1000:1 contrast ratio vs 600:1, 500 nits brightness vs 300, 24" screen vs 20", and that awesome resolution of 1920 x 1200 on the 2405 vs 1680 x 1050 on the 2005. Price difference too, but with sales and coupons you can get the 2405 at a killer price.

I tried both and sent the 2005 back and kept the 2405. It was a no-brainer for me, especially when the 2405 dropped to $699 + tax ater Dell coupons and discounts.

Just a heads up. With coupons you can bring the 2005 to below 400.00 as dell sometimes does some agressive sales. In the event you can't get it on sale and have time restraints, just before you make that purchase be sure and compare it to the new (hasn't gone on sale yet) Gateway FPD2185w which is a bit better of a display than the 2005fpw. If you can get the 2005 under $400 then jump on that deal. Best monitor you can get for that price, I think.

I have the 2005FPW and a supersexy 172x from samsung setup in dual config. I also have a 7800GTX so fortunately, it can push a lot of pixels to the screen. The problem however is that the configuration they they are presented in games is often whacky!!! Most games I have encountered (all cept UT2K4 and CS:S/HL2) do not have 1680*1050 as selectable resolutions. You are left to set these manually or hax some ini file to get it to work...if it works at all. If you do a bunch of gaming...I would suggest you take this into consideration.

Sanvara:

Is it possible we mean different things when we say "viewing angles"? I am talking about color change (washout), which 2405 has in abundance (as a matter of fact, the "viewing angle" is not enough to provide regular color across the screen, which is especially noticeable on these forums--just look at the gray stripe). 2005 fills blacks with purple, but for that to happen, the viewing angle has to be quite extreme. I am looking at it right now from about 1.5", and the black is uniform across the screen.

Back when I had the 2405, the color change did not bother me too much. Now, I don't think I would want to go back, even though I probably still wouldn't notice it too much in games/movies.

Also, I wouldn't put so much trust in whatever numbers the manufacturer feed s you :D There is still only one TRUE 16ms panel on the market, if Tomshardware's measurements are worth anything, and yet look at how much stink there is about 8 and below-8 ms panels  And 88 vs. 89 degree angle should not influence your decision anyway :D

I love my 2005fpw too (minus the backlight bleeding that has earned my October 2005 model an RMA) and that's true about widescreen gaming - which is why sites like www.widescreengamingforum.com exist. They have forums with solutions to getting most popular games working in widescreen. Almost all of which only involve changing two or three lines in an .ini file.

Well worth the effort!

P.S. - I think you have to change the FOV in UT2K4 as well to get it to look right on a 16:10.

so noone sugggest against it ?? now just waiting for dell deal to drop it to ~500 each bout 545 now still kinda to much

dunno if black friday is to far off for me but we'll see
