Hey fellas,

Just wondering if anyone recently (approx. a months time period) ordered a 2005FPW and had any blacklight bleeding problems or any dead pixels?????

im still thinking about if i should buy a 2405FPW or a 2005FPW. I would love to get a 2405 but seeing that i can save ~$400 would help.

I received mine on 3/15 & I love it. No dead or stuck pixels but I do have some backlight leakage from the lower left bottom. The other 3 corners are very very minimal. It's not bad & I haven't noticed any problem with it. I happy with mine.
 
check the massive 2405fpw pages most people report no leakage or very very little and most have few dead pixels... those that have a lot have had a hell of a problem with dell phone support. I havent ordered mine yet so i cant be much help, but just look around the forum :D

The 2405fpw must be truly massive.
I went to a local computer store, where I looked at a 23" wide screen LCD.
There is no way I could have that on my desk - I'd have to be turning my head right and left all the time to see the whole screen.
I ordered the 2005fpw.
I am supposed to receive it on Monday.
 
I will be ordering this monitor sometime within the next two weeks (when the funds become available heh) I'll post what I think about it. I'd love to have a 2405 but it's not very practical for me since I don't have a super computer to run games at that resolution. Would be awesome for dvd's though, at least with the 2005 I'll have somewhat the best of both worlds.
 
The Dell 2005FPW is an incredible LCD and hard to beat for less then $500 (i payed $487) but the chances of you getting one with zero dead pixels and no backlight problems is very slim unless your just dont notice them.

I've already tried out three new 2005FPW's in the last two weeks and i have a fourth one on the way. The one i'm planning to keep, which is so far the best out of the three, has a couple stuck blue pixels and one white pixels and backlight problems at the top and bottom edges of the screen.

The thing is though you can't see the dead pixels unless you test for them on alternate colored backgrounds and you dont really notice the backlight problem unless your away from the LCD and the background is all black. So right now when i'm using the LCD normally it looks perfect with no problems.

I'm on a mission to get a perfect one though so i'm going to try one more before i give up this quest and settle on one.

Good luck on getting a pefect one the first try.

I was doubtful also as from all the replies I read of the problems. But you have to remember that Dell has a 21 day no questions asked return. I figured if I got one of the bad ones or I just plain didn't like it I could return it for full credit. As I stated earlier in this thread, I feel I got one hell of a deal on my 2005FPW ( I paid $486.75 total). I think for the money you can't find a better monitor right now. With the 21 day return I feel it is a no brainer if you are looking for a new monitor. This is just my two cents.

No its not incredbly bad. Its just that you may not get one that has zero stuck/dead pixels and has no noticeable backlight problems. This has nothing to do with the performance of the LCD and usually you can't even see the stuck/dead pixel(s) unless your using a program to look for them. I know i have a couple on this one and i can't see them.

I have 21 days to get new replacements so why wouldn't i try to get one with zero dead pixels and no backlight leakage?
 
if your not too big on gaming go for the 2405FPW. its resolution is so high that you'd have to have 6800U SLi to run new games on it with good settings at native res :) ive got a 2005FPW and i cant even run new games at its native res because my comp isnt good enough..heh. anyway if your getting a screen for non gaming use id go for the larger one because its just that: larger. if your getting a screen for gaming then id go for the smaller one because its native res is lower and your comp will be able to get higher fps.
 
I ordered a 2005FPW on March 22nd, and it had pretty serious backlight problems(no dead pixels though). It was a Rev. A01 made in January. My replacement is on the way, hope I get a decent one this time.

DELL should have had this backlight thing fixed by now. It's ridiculous to make customers who paid this much for a monitor play this return game crap just to get one that functions correctly.

Yeah i dont play games on my computer. That's the reason i have a XBOX. I was looking to buy the 2405 cuz it has component so i can use it for TV and of course to play XBOX.


And by the way, What is the cheapest we can get the 2405 now??
 
relative to this thread, those users that already got monitors, how is it with gaming?

Just ordered one so I hope alls well. My wife is going to be happy too since she is getting 19 inches of goodness. :D
 
Well, I received my 2005FPW monitor today.

With all the "bad press" regarding this monitor, nervously, I set it up.

And it's PERFECT!

I don't see any dead pixels, and I don't see any of the abnormal /noticeable backlighting others have complained about.

And it's just a perfect size - to compliment my Viewsonic 18" LCD, in a dual monitor set-up.

And it is bright! - even with the brightness set to max on the Viewsonic - can't approach that of the 2005FP.

The only criticism (if you want to call it that - can't think of a better term) the fonts are smaller (given the higher resolution) - meaning I have to wear my computer glasses.

But if you have good eyes - this obviously won't be a problem for you.

The monitor comes with a CD and monitor drivers - does anyone know if I need to install the drivers - as everything is working perfectly just with hooking the monitor up?

PS "Burningrave" - you're right - the 2005FPW is an "incredible
monitor".
I hope you get one you'll be satisfied with.
 
I'm satisfied with the one i'm using now. I can't see the dead pixels and the backlight leakage isn't a problem for me.

Have you tested your LCD with something like Dead Pixel Buddy and tried alternate solid backgrounds? I somewhat doubt that you got a perfect one with zero dead pixels but maybe you got lucky. Usually you just can't see them unless you look really hard.

You wont notice the backlight leakage unless you switch to a solid black background and step away from the LCD.

And i never installed the drivers for my 2005FPW even though i have the driver CD laying here on my desk.

And yes the 2005FPW is very bright. I thought my 19" Hyunda L90D+ was freaking bright compared to my CRT but once i got on this thing the L90D+ doesn't look that bright at all.

No, I didn't.
But why should I? I don't see any defects with the naked eye - it just doesn't make sense to me to install some utility so that I could find a defect.
But if you do use Dead Pixel Buddy; why not do better and check your screen using an electron microscope?
Maybe there are some pixels with an irregular border or somewhat deformed?
Maybe the screen is not completely smooth...

Again I didn't purposely install a solid background - but I can say when looking at a DVD (non-widescreen) with 2.5'' black bars on either side - I can't say I notice any backlight leakage.
Even on this site, this forum, which has a black background, I can't say I see any backlight leakage.
Windows XP blue desktop - I can't see backlight leakage.

But I suppose if I use a light sensor, which can measure emitted light from different areas of the monitor, I would discover some backlight leakage.

Now why don't I just do that?

Probably. The only reason i'm saying its a good idea to test now is cause you only have 21 days to get a new replacement and you might notice the stuck/dead pixel or backlight problem later on.

With any hardware is always good to thoroughly test it out while you can easily return it.
 
as far as my 2005FPW is concerned, yea, it has backlighting problems. moderate i would say in the corners. it also has one dead pixel but ya know, i cant find it anymore. as far as backlighting is concerned, it really isn't as bad as you'd think. i don't watch movies on my computer or play D3 or any other really dark things so it isn't noticeable. the backlighting problems are only visible when it's displaying something almost, or entirely, black or dark in color. since i rarely do that, it's fine for me. and even when it is dark i dont notice usually because im too busy focusing on whatever game im playing :)

Well supposing I find 1 or 2 dead pixels using my electron microscope - what are my chances that the replacement will be better?
I think nil. So what for?

If I apply my light sensor on the monitor - and I discover areas of backlight leakage - again the same question - and the same answer: the chance that the replacement will be better is slight.

I am not trying to be sarcastic - but I think everyone should stop using these various programs/utilities to discover a defect; if your monitor looks fine to your eye - I think you should be ecstatic!

I mean if you do find a cluster of 4 stuck pixels in the center of your screen, then indeed have the monitor replaced - because that would bother me too!

And one more thing - stuck pixels can also suddenly appear months later - do you think I would have it replaced and risk a refurbished model - no thanks - unless the pixels are a real eyesore.
 
Im going to open my LCD up and make sure the same amount of solder is used on every circuit.
 
Yeah people on here definetly exagerate that backlight issues. I wouldn't have noticed mine at all if I hadn't of read this forum. I have minimal in the top righthand corner, and it seems to be going away as time goes by.
