You guys decide. Is this bad?

When i look at a certain angle, the backlight dissapears, so i thought it's normal. I never owned an LCD before so i don't know if it's normal or not.

Can somebody also post a picture of the monitor WITHOUT any backlight issue so i can compare? Thanks...

Position yourself 2-3 feet away from teh monitor and look at it dead on. Is the "leakage" still there. Mine is perfect but if i take pictures of it up close and at off angles i will see a purplish "leaking" from the corners

SAME MONITOR!

Off angle and up close

yea, i deifinetely see some leakage going on my monitor. Damn, and i thought mine was perfect. You can definetely see it even when compared to yours. Your monitor looks perfect comparing to mine. You have that total black screen while mine doesn't.

these pictures are not too accurate...and no such thing as "perfect" black, it's all due to the camera...

i think yours is one of the better one...i would keep it for now untill a few weeks from now when dell ships their new batch. cause if you get a new one now, it'll still suck, and probably even worst.

Somebody said here in the forum that supposedly he talked to a Dell Rep and said that they have already gotted rid of the "bad" batch and are shipping the good ones. Anybody can confirm this?

I talked to a dell salesperson yesterday. He said he knew nothing of a backlight problem, and new nothing about a revision A01. Course he could barely speak english, so what does he know.

Well i jsut spoke to an American chick speaking person (thank god) and she is sending me another monitor. I won't have to send my current monitor yet until i receive the new one. They'll also pay for the UPS pickup. I guess i can just put them side to side and compare which is the best looking one and keep it. If both of them are bad and then i'll give them a call again. Cool, i can temporarily have a Dual 2005FPW setup. :p

my 2005FPW is overall good; no 'screen door' or dead pixels...but its got moderately bad backlighting issues. this is mostly in the upper and lower left hand side; the right is much better. im really unsure whether or not i want to return it because the problem is a LOT more noticeable at night and in dark scenes; two primary situations in which my monitor is used. then again the monitor is sort of an early Christmas present from my parents and my dad feels that im 'ungrateful' if i return it for a better one. im not really sure how he gets to this assumption because i paid for over half of it and i want a good, if not perfect screen for my $630.

edit: my question to you guys is this; have any of you that have returned your 2005FPW had good luck in getting a better replacement? from what i hear the process of getting a new one isnt very hard, it just takes a while. im willing to spend the time to get one if i knew that there was a relatively good chance to get one w/o dead pixels and back lighting issues....assuming that i could convince my dad that im not ungrateful or something.

Show him pictures that the others posted. Let him read through the posts about the problems that others are having. That might help. :)

that is by far the BEST 2005 pic ive seen on this forum. youre very lucky to have a monitor that leaks that little (at least according to the pic).
im definately stayin away from the 2005s. waaaaayyyy too many problems.
and ive talked to dell support only once before, and i don't ever want to call them again (this was for my uncle, not my PC). i cant stand this outsourcing.

I actually called customer care today to return my 1905fp. I think CC is still in the u.s. 'cos the guy spoke english very well. Unfortunately, he didn't really know what he was doing. Maybe he was new... I can never understand how you can call tech support and when you tell them the model number of screen you have (and tell them its an lcd twice) they still don't know what it is( he thought it was a crt). I use to work for IBM as a customer service rep in the acct dept. It wasn't my job to know their products, but the customer appreciates when they call in about a payment issue, and you actually know what the product is. I just know model numbers from being on [H] and doing some research, and I'm sure most ppl around this NG would make better tech support reps.

I guess it's not as bad, if the process of exchanging was difficult then i'll settle for it, but since they're willing to send me another one and i won't have to pay for anything then that's fine too.

Well i am one of the guys who spoke to a rep on the issue. I purchased via the small buiness route and they speak English. Mine shipped on Friday and i expect it Wednsday, I will let you know if he was full of it when i get it. I will take pics along side my 213T and if this fucker does not make the grade i will insist on a 243T for $1680 or they are going on TV to explain this debatchery

ok , i just recieved my 2nd monitor, no backlight issue, but 1 dead pixel. Im calling them again to issue another exchange. Can't deal with irregularities when paying for an expensive monitor.

hey, did you update your two pictures?? on the first post?

no i did not. I'll post the pic of the 2nd monitor later on to compare it to the old one. But yea, they are sending me another monitor.

haha, that's funny...when i first saw your picture, it was when i was at home using a crt...now that i am in my dorm room on this lcd...that picture appears to be a lot worse.

anyways, that's what my lcd looks like. same amount of leakage. make sure to update if you get any leakage with the new monitor.

the weird thing is, earlier today, zero dead pixels. went to take my exam, came back one red stuck pixel right in the center of the screen appeared.

went to study and watch tv, two hours later, two new stuck pixels appeared.

first time i've ever had pixels dying on me, normally they come dead and stay dead or perfect and stay perfect...this introduces a new problem, i'd hate to see what my monitor looks like a few months from now.

i said earlier that there is only a dead pixel on the 2nd monitor. But it turns out that it has also has a backlight leakage and it's worst than the 1st one. I sure hope that the 3rd monitor im receiving tomorrow will be it. As much as i love opening packages, i hate packing it again.
