Found this on Anandtech. Seems to be an attribute of the panel.
I don't care what causes it. All I know is it sucks. My 19" Samsung 913T has none of this bleeding or screen door effect.
If the replacement 2005FPW doesn't solve the problems I am not sure what to do. I really wanted to jump on the WS band wagon but this is discouraging.

I just got mine today JAN '06 A03 and it has very very bad bleeding on the Left Bottom, bad bleeding on the right bottom, and bad bleeding on the right top. I am calling them right now.....

I own 2 of these monitors. The 1st one I got back in March. No problems at all with it. Just the slightest back light bleeding in the lower right.
In May I bought my 2nd one. It was terrible. Replacement was worst than the orignal one. 3rd time was a charm. It's real close to my 1st one. Am I happy with the 2 I have YES. Will I ever buy another one NO. All I can say is the monitors are great but if you get a bad one the hassle you have to go thru makes it not worth it. As far as I'm concerned I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM DELL AGAIN. It's just to much hassle to deal with Hadji and his crew.

yea, dells customer support is horrible. but i did get a free monitor for all that time i spent on teh phone with them, so its not too bad.Budman said:

For those of you trying to contact Dell over the phone, don't bother.
Email them @ us_cts_desktop_Support@dell.com, and try to list as much information for them as possible (name, address, order number, customer number, etc etc) and be specific about your complaint. Using proper grammar and formatting doesn't hurt either. Just try to write as if you are writing a business letter. Be professional.

I got my replacement today and it is 100% better than the original. The "screen door" is also better with this one. It's still there but not as annoying as the original. Just need to decide whether to stick with the Dell or give the new Viewsonic a try.

It's strange that the 2005fpw has this problem but the 2405fpw doesn't. My 2405 has absolutly no backlight bleeding..

I feel very grateful my 1905FP doesn't have any sort of backlight bleeding issues. It is a rebadged Samsung 193P, perhaps that has something to do with the quality of the LCD itself. I send my condolences out to you guys...

I feel the same EXACT way with my samsung
Well I've been testing the ones out I got this week. I ordered 2 and both are Dec. A03 models. The second one came 2 days after the 1st one and has considerably more backlight issues. So I called Dell Small Business and with in 2min. I had a replacement on the way. It came nextday air with return shipping paid for. This ones a Jan. A03 with a more even backlight just 2 minor places that bleeds. My hardest problem is getting used to type., this monitor totally struggles displaying certain fonts. Running XP at 106DPI helps and the other odd thing I've noticed is if there is a series of lowercase L's ie: lllllllllllll it shows a red halo effect around it. All 3 monitors do this. So I was out shopping yesterday and see this HP system sitting there on display running a f2105 monitor. So I gave that thing the once over., the one on display there had a very nice panel in it with zero backlight bleeding what so ever. When I set the screensaver to blank it was jet black, where these 2005fpw monitors have grayish hue to them and if I move side to side looking at the corners using the blank screensaver I notice red hues in the corners. So for now i'm satisfied with the 2 I have. Would I buy the 2005fpw again after seeing other monitors. No

I was seriously considering the 2005FPW, but I found a wonderful Viewsonic VA2012wb @ costco for 400 bucks. I mean...I've got th parrots on my mon now!

forum noob here.
I joined this board specifically because of the wonderful time I have had roasting in Dell Hell because of this issue.
Bought one through Dell's employee&affiliates purchase program in the 1st week of Feb. It worked fine except for these huge and very aggravating white blotches in the lower left corner, top middle, and a smaller one in the lower right corner. I have low lighting in my apt and variations in the quality of blacks and grays are extremely noticable. After doing some reasearch, I found this "backlight bleeding" to be a common issue hidden away on forums, not mentioned in any reviews I read. I called Dell and was routed to India (sic) where I basically watsed an hour of my life with some clown named "Barry", replete with the trademark East Indian accent. The next day I called and got someone stateside who processed a replacement. The replacement monitor was worse. It had bad bleeding in three corners plus the top center. After another long phone call they agreed to send another. The third monitor was not as bad as the second, but worse than the original. All of the units I got were revision A03 from January 06.
I then decided to try a 2405FPW and called Dell to see what could be arranged. None of the case managers they gave me the numbers and extensions for ever answered their phones or returned their voicemails. Must be nice to work in a call center and not have to take or make any calls. Freaking useless people. I had to call and wade through the ivr and queue each and every time, replete with hangups, rude agents, and ivr snafus (routed to dead air, etc.). They said they would process a return for refund which would take about 10 days to accomplish. After that I could purchase a 24" if I wanted. They refused to allow me to upgrade. The only way they would do it (this is after escalating the issue through 2 different supervisors both india and stateside) is for me to send all the monitors back and then 10 days after they process them in I get my money back. They then sent DHL to pick up the monitors that very day!! Then the next day DHL came by again and pounded on my door (awakening me cause I work nights). They wanted to pickup the monitors. After telling them they already picked them up the guy looked at me like I was crazy and said "whatever" and left in a huff, despite being given the tracking number. Today UPS came by and pounded on my door (again awakening me) looking for the monitors. Good God. Now I have no idea what the hell is going on and have been too busy since Friday when they picked the monitors up to bother calling them.
When and if I get my money back I will not only NOT consider purchasing a 2405, I will eschew purchasing or recommending Dell products to anyone. They suck. They suck hard.
No idea what monitor I'm going to buy now.

Ok I took your advice, called it in for the exchange.
Didnt take too long, except being transferred like 8 times before someone found me the right department, luckily the department I ended up talking too spoke english I could understand.
So I'm happy they are sending me a new one, but realistically if this problem occurs so often with this monitor, what are my odds of even getting a good one?
I'll be honest though, this is a nice monitor, and if its anything brighter than dark that youre displaying, you cant notice the bleeding at all. Bright colorful games look nice, and there is no dreaded input lag like 2405. Everything else is nice and crisp, bright, and vibrant, much nicer than my old 17" crt's.
It would be basically perfect, if not for the backlight bleeding, so I really hope I roll a good one when the replacement comes.
Just for reference, in the picture above, the center is definitely black, its just the white balance on the camera that makes it look blue. I should have taken the time to set it correctly.

I received a brand new 2005fpw about 1 mth ago and it has a backlight bleed issue. But its not so bad where i care, and like you say its only noticeable on completely dark screens. My main is an Apple Cinema and this one is my 2ndary monitor so i am not going worry about the hassle to get a replacement. Let us know if your new one has no problems though.
