I'm looking for impressions from those who have used the 2005fp and 2001fp, vp201 or other 20" 4:3 lcd. According to the Dell specs, the 2001 is 16"x12" (viewable) vs 2005 17"x10.7" viewable. Does anyone find the 2005 small compared to the 2001? I've never seen the 2005, but I have seen the vp201, and it looks really BIG compared to my current 17". I believe its the fact that the vertical viewing area is so much bigger. In contrast, the 2005 has the same vertical viewable area as my 17", but is 4" wider. Does this difference bother anyone? Has anyone upgraded from a 17" lcd to the 2005? What have been your impressions? Thanks for any replies.

I looked at the 2005fpw and went with a pair of vp201b monitors instead. They are indeed huge and I love them, quite a bit more screen real estate than a pair of 2005s. Not to mention no worries about strange results in games from the aspect ratios. Also remember that Viewsonic supposedly has a 0 dead pixel policy. Hope this helps.

The 2001FP has more screen space, since it's less rectangular (more squarish) than the 2005. Imagine a 20 inch (measured diagonally) display with a vertical resolution of only 200 pixels, and you'll see what I mean. =P

The 2001FP is slightly larger but the 2005FPW makes up for it with playing games and watching DVD's in widescreen mode and the 2005FPW has better specs then the 2001FP.

2001FP = 1600x1200
2005FPW = 1680x1050

You will also get better fps in games on the 2005FPW because of the resolution being less total real estate then 1600x1200.

I have a 2005fpw - and before deciding to go with this, I was also considering the 2001fp.

But wide screen I think is the future - and wide screen video just looks fantastic on the 2005.

2001fp has more real estate.

But I went with the 2005 because it had better all around specs and was a generation newer than the 2001fp.

I don't regret my purchase one bit, I love this monitor. The only problem now is I'm want the 2405 :p. Me and my addition to new toys.

I was also debating this but widescreen is so much better looking and is more comfortable on the eyes than looking at a square. Oh yea i also saw screenshots of HL2 and fell in love. :D

Well, that's only if you don't mind things being squished. If you want games to run properly you'll need to increase the FOV, and the additional stuff being rendered tends to negate the resolution difference.
