2001FP that good for gaming?

Guys,

I'd really like to get a new monitor. I've been drooling over the 2405 but I think its just a little to expensive, althoug I'm still wavering :D

Anyway, I'm now trying to decide between the 2001FP and the 2005FPW. I like the widescreen factor on the 2005 but traditionally I've ran 1600x1200. I've read a lot of the threads on here and I see that you guys really love your 2005's so I know its badass but what I'd really like to know is how the 2001 is with games. I've seen the 2001 in person at work and I know its AWESOME in Windows, but lets be honest, games is whats important :D

So, how is the 2001 for gaming?

For refrence I play a LOT of WoW but also like my FPSes. I play HL2, BF2 and plan to play FEAR.

Also, this will be my first LCD. Are they long lasting? I have some CRTs that I've had for 5 years and still look fantastic. Can this be said of LCDs as well?

What video card do you have? I have gamed on both the Hyundai L90D+ and Dell 2001FP and Dell FPW and this is what I though

The difference between 1280x1024 and 1600x1200 concerning viewing in gaming really isn't that much of a difference, the 1280x1024 will suit you just fine and with future games you will be able to have more AA and AF then if you had 1600x1200. Regarding the 2005FPW, it is awesome, love it.

That is why I got the Hyundai and 2005, love em both.
 
Once you go Widescreen you wont want to go back ;) , My experiance wasnt all that great with the 2001FP, It had weak black levels but I guess you cant expect much with a 400:1 contrast ratio, If I were you I'd go with the 2005FPW for the widescreen aspect and slightly better 500:1 ratio.
 
although i have never used the 2005 i just got two 2001fp's the other day.

i've been playing CS:S on them and i think they are doing a great job. As was already stated their black levels are not the best but are not that bad either...

i haven't seen any ghosting in games, and i like em.
 
I replaced a dead 21" trinitron with a 2001fp. Good points: LCD is light, i like the height adjustability (for when the cat wants to stand in front of the keyboard), work/text/web is awesome, input switching is good, and it has much better glare reduction than my old CRT. Bad points: black levels are not good, just a hint of ghosting.

If i had to do it again, i'd probably get a nice 21-24" CRT, and a small LCD as a second monitor (and to haul around for lan gaming). That said, i don't regret getting the 2001fp, since i use this machine more for work and things other than gaming these days.

I'd suggest trying some gaming out on an LCD before you buy, if you can. Make sure you do it in an environment just like your normal gaming environment (i notice the ghosting and bad black levels far more at night with the lights off than during the day).

Are you using the DVI connection ? Because i have not seen any ghosting yet...

Also running games at 1600-1200 is unreal..

Yep, using DVI. I'm not talking about bad image quality type ghosting, but rather the fast-motion ghosting, where everything leaves a trail as it moves across the screen. It's not bad at all, but still noticable in games. On the desktop, about the only way to notice it is to drag a window around really quickly. ;]
 
I'm using a 9600XT 256MB. I've wanted to upgrade to a 6800GT for a while but since the 9600 runs WoW so well I've been reluctant to shell out the dough.

For refrence, the rest of my system:
AMD 64 3400+
DFI Lanparty UT 250Gb
1 GB OCZ EL Platinum Revision 2
74GB Raptor

The system is pretty good for what what I've been using it for. I'd like to step up to 2 GB ram but I'm not sure if I can get a single 1GB stick to accompany my 2 512 sticks or If I need to replace my two sticks with two 1GB sticks. I'll post in the ram section about it when I get more serious.

So anyway, I'm not running games in 1600x1200, usually more like 1280x1024. When I mentioned that resolution in the OP I meant for my Windows desktop.

Thx for everyone's reply. It looks like I should be focusing on the 2005. I must admit the black level issue is distressing.
